Samco Silicone Coolant Hoses-Federal Cars

Postby algirdas » Sun 24.12.2006, 07:45

Dear All:

Just a quick status update. It turns out that there may be a third "unique" hose for the Federal Elans. The bottom radiator hose connects to a short section of metal pipe which then connects to the hose that runs to the recirculating pump and then on to the overflow tank. It is the hose that runs from the metal tube to the recirculation pump and then on to the overflow tank that "might" be "unique".

Docfizzix has been kind enough to lend me his original hose to send to James at Amber Performance and then on to Samco. As soon as I get it from Docfizzix, I will send it on to James.

At that point, I see one of two scenarios taking place. Samco determines that all it needs to do is trim the existing UK hose and all is well. Or it has to make a new mould for this third unique hose. The first scenario should be fairly quick and easy. The second should take a bit longer.

James-I will e-mail you tracking numbers etc. as soon as I send Docfizzix's original hose to you.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Dear James:

The "Y-Branch" hose that appears to be unique to Federal Elans sailed out of here today. Fedex tracking number has been e-mailed to you.

Doc-I will send your hose back to you via snail mail by this weekend. Hopefully it will not take 21 days to get back to you.

Sincerely,

Dear All:

The third "unique" hose from the Federal Elan is in route to James (at Stansted FedEx facility as of close of business Friday, January 26th, 2007) and should be delivered in the next day or so to James at Amber Performance.

Yet another revised list (as of 1.27.07):

UNIQUE

1. Algirdas-1 set in Black.
2. MattRI-1 set in Green.
3. Bard-1 set in Red.
4. Nitroman-1 set in Red.

ADDITIONAL

1. Algirdas-1 additional hose in Black.
2. MattRI-1 additional hose in Green.
3. Bard-1 additional hose in Red.
4. Nitroman-1 additional hose in Red.

FULL FED SET

1. Ekapol-1 set in Black.
2. Kjeld-1 set in Yellow.
3. Kjeld-1 set in Black.
4. Mailman221-1 set in Black.
5. Jabrown39-1 set in Black.
6. Dunnlor-1 set in Black.
7. Foreleft-1 set in Green.
8. Elanlover-1 set in Black.
9. Docfizzix-1 set in Black.
10. DaveM-1 set in Black.

N.B.-If you do not specify a color, I will default you to Black.

Again, my apologies for the delays. They have been entirely at my end.

My goal is to get pricing from James in the next couple of weeks (James-Does that work for you?) and perhaps pick up hose sets at Donington (assuming I can make it over there). If that plan works for all concerned, you would have to contact James directly, settle up with him on the cost of your hoses or hose set(s) and let him and me know that I should pick them up on the Monday AFTER Donington.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Thanks for the update Algirdas,

Sounds reasonable to me. Although I know that if James could get the hoses of those that had paid to Donington then those of us going could save some more on postage. See you there.

Cheers,

Dear Ian:

Good catch! I'll see what I can do about picking them up on my way to Donington. And if I my trip gets cancelled at the last minute, I'll try to get someone else to do it.

Hi Algirdas,

Do we have to say anything special to James when we call or does he know who ordered what? Is there a group order reference for this buy?

As you can tell I'm eager to pay, and will have space in my luggage to bring the hoses back with me ;)

Cheers,
Ian

Dear Ian:

So far, no orders or anything of the sort have been placed. We are still in the "engineering" stage thanks to my delays. As soon as Samco has the Federal Elan kit fully developed, James will let all of us know probably through a posting to this thread. At a minimum, I expect him to contact me via e-mail.

I have been updating the list primarily for James' benefit so he can see that the demand for a Federal Elan kit is real.

At that time, you will contact him directly via e-mail or telephone and place your orders, make shipping arrangements etc. All I ask is that if I am going to be your pack mule, that you let me know so that I can take that into account as far as luggage, travel plans etc. are concerned. If I am able to make it over to Donington, it is probably going to be a very last minute, blast in, blast out sort of trip.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Coolant hoses are starting to leak somewhere now. It seems that I would need to "quick fix" it for a while until our silicone hoses are ready.

Dear All:

Looks like we are getting close. I heard from James at Amber Performance earlier today. It looks like everything has been worked out with Samco and they are making the tooling at present and production is expected to begin in about two weeks.

I don't have all of the pricing at present except that the complete kit (including the one "Additional" hose (as defined above)) will be 150 GBP (around $300USD) plus shipping. This price is AFTER the LEC discount and WITHOUT VAT.

Here is the last revised list (as of 1.27.07):

UNIQUE (One top radiator hose and one bottom radiator hose)

1. Algirdas-1 set in Black.
2. MattRI-1 set in Green.
3. Bard-1 set in Red.
4. Nitroman-1 set in Red.

ADDITIONAL (One hose from thermostat housing to throttle body)

1. Algirdas-1 additional hose in Black.
2. MattRI-1 additional hose in Green.
3. Bard-1 additional hose in Red.
4. Nitroman-1 additional hose in Red.

FULL FED SET (The whole enchilada)

Is the above list still good?

Also, from my discussions with James, the bottom radiator hose will be a hybrid/improvement over what we now have. It will start with the Unique Fed Elan bottom radiator hose with the small diameter hose coming off at a right angle. That small hose will continue all the way across to the "Y" branch at the recirculating pump and then continue up to the overflow tank. That will all be one hose with no connectors. We will have to cut and trim the small diameter hose to get it to fit onto the metal tube that runs across the front of our frames. Or, if your metal tube is toast, leave the silicone hose intact and not use the metal tube.

James-Please chime in if I got anything wrong.

I'll keep you all posted on the details as they unfold.

Post or PM me with questions or issues.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Samco Silicone Coolant Hoses-Federal Cars

Postby algirdas » Sun 18.02.2007, 23:41

Dear All:

I was notified by James last Friday that production for the Samco Federal Elan kits is underway with the hoses to be ready for shipping in the next two weeks or so. Below is the final pricing. Again, no VAT included in the pricing and the prices shown are after applying the LEC discount. Please note that we are still using the same definitions as before.

"UNIQUE" Hoses. With this you get the unique Fed Elan top and bottom radiator hoses. Please note that the bottom hose will be similar to that big ugly hose included in the UK kit (i.e. bottom radiator hose, appendix hose running to the recirculating pump and then continuing on up to the coolant overflow tank). You will have to trim the big ugly hose to make it work with the metal coolant tube that the Fed Elan uses. Prices for the Unique hoses are as follows:

TB2156 Top Radiator Hose 13.44GBP each
TB 2157 and TB 1839 Bottom Radiator Hose and Big Ugly Hose 53.68GBP each

"ADDITIONAL" Hose. Small hose that runs from thermostat housing to throttle body. This hose was omitted in the original UK kit.

TB 2038 Throttle Body Coolant Hose 7.88GBP

"FULL FED SET". All of the hoses found in the UK kit but including the Unique Fed Elan hoses in place of the corresponding UK ones and including the Additional hose. 150GBP per kit.

None of the above prices include shipping.

To place an order, please contact James directly at Amber Performance and pay via credit card. You can also make shipping arrangements with him at that time as well. James' contact information is as follows:

Attn.: James
Amber Performance
Unit 7A
Lawrence Industrial Estate
Lawrence Way
Dunstable
Bedfordshire
LU6 1BD

Tel. +44 1582 664 735
FAX +44 1582 664 728

E-mail james@amber-performance.co.uk

There is a decent chance that I will be able to make it over for Donington and can bring back a few hoses or hose sets to make shipping easier for all concerned. Let me know if any of you want to do that. Remember-if I get pinched at customs, you each will have to pay his or her prorata share of duties.

James-I will contact you later this week to place my order. I will be wanting to pick up my hoses during the Donington weekend so I will be needing a VAT exemption form if you are going to charge me VAT. At that time, I would also like to get back the original rubber hoses.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Samco Silicone Coolant Hoses-Federal Cars

Postby algirdas » Tue 20.02.2007, 02:03

Dear All:

One additional development. James at Amber Performance has been gracious enough to allow those of us who have previously purchased UK kits for Fed Elans to exchange the top radiator hose and the bottom radiator hose (along with the Big Ugly Hose attached to it) for the correct Fed Elan hoses at no charge (except shipping, of course). Here are the terms and conditions:

1. The hoses that you are returning must be new and unused. In other words, they must never been fitted, must never have seen ANY fluids and must never had a hose clamp put on them. If there is the slightest bit of use or wear indicated, you will have to pay for the new hoses and the UK Elan hoses you sent in will be returned to you. This is because James needs to be able to sell the hoses as part of the next UK Elan kit and the hoses must be in new and never fitted condition for his exchange offer to be valid.

2. Contact James and let him know which hoses you will be exchanging and the color that you need. Then bundle up your hoses and send them to James. You will have to give him your credit card for the return shipping. Also, when you talk with James, make sure he tells you how to fill out the shipping waybill so as to minimize inbound shipping duties into the UK.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either James or myself.

Sincerely,

Algirdas
