Cleaning Question

This is probably the wrong time of the year to ask this but I'm curious none the less. How are people washing/cleaning their tonneaus?

I used Windex on it last time which is undoubtedly not the best solution. A traditional washing is out of the quesiotn unless you want a wet floor. What's everyone else doing?????

you mean the convertible top?

lightly wet top
soap or simple green on a sponge
rub on gently
hose off gently

No, I mean the tonneau (cover) itself. The "lid" under which the roof goes when stored. Its not exposed to the sponge and hose when the roof's up but I find it gets dirty none the less. Hard to wash it without getting the interior wet if you know what I mean. I suppose that careful use of the sponge when the roof is down would work. I just didn't know if someone had some magic technique they could share.

wet cloth....or i use the chamois when cleaning it.

yes, after the clay, paint polish and wax job, it holds up real well to use and I would just lift the rear of the convertible top up a bit and wipe with a damp microfiber towel = DONE.

I'll share my little secret:
- Drive your Elan on the ramp.
- Make sure the front wheels have nice support, at least a foot higher than the rear wheels.
- Now you can lightly hose down the top tonneau. Notice that the water will magically run off to the back of your Elan.
- Like many Elan projects, you would work faster after some practice.

I usually just wipe it down with a damp micro fiber cloths, and give it a wax (with the top fold down) every once in a while. I dust off that area quite often, basically just try to keep that area clean.
