In the words of Yoda :

"the is another JPS Elan M100..........."

It seems that Paul's car may not be unique...

Quite flattered someone likes my car so much he's copied it !, Will be interesting to see how many of the finer details he's copied, also might have some ideas for me ?

Had the base timing checked yesterday, & it was 24 degrees, so it was out, will be driving the car today, so havn't yet had a chance to feel if there's any difference in performance. Does anybody have any inkling as to whether that would effect the performance much ?

Paul,
It makes a huge difference to performance.

There was a lot of discussion about the importance of base timing as a parameter in getting the best out of the Mountain chips when they were first developed. Both Nige (S2) & I (SE) found large differences.

If you look in the first few pages of the "ESM Chips - Performance & discussion" thread you'll find a long slow realisation by Nige & me that when we first fitted the test chips, we were not getting realistic results because both of us had our base timing too far advanced. (Alan couldn't understand what the problem was because he of course presumed we'd have checked that).

Probably the best illustration is
this one of Nige's.

Thanks for that John, interesting stuff !. I have driven the car back from Newmarket today ( 70mls ), with the base timing correct & a Peco exhaust on. Firstly, i may be going deaf in my old age, but didn't think it was particulary more noisy ?, bit more throaty, but not excessive. My initial feelings towards how the car performed, are that when opened out fully it feels to have more power, but not convinced about the mid range, although realise the larger exhaust won't help there. Really need some kind person to do me another elanscan run at Dony, any volunteers please ?

You really should have your own Paul. It sounds like you've been hanging around with Gary too long!

Paul,
I'll have my laptop & Elanscan at Donington, as will others I'm sure. Give me a shout at Donington any time from Friday at 6pm to Sunday at about 4.

I'll be interested to see if the timing being out explains your car's poor performance as in this thread.

Paul,

I've put you on the list but you need to confirm whether you want a serial or USB interface. If you've got a newish laptop, then you probably need a USB one @ £25 but if it's old and cluncky like John_W's, you'll probably need a serial one @ £15.

Geoff

PS I'm surprised you didn't buy the limited edition black with gold connectors last time around! :-D
