Carbon/Kevlar front undertray

As much as I find myself day-dreaming the same 'ultimate Elan', I always come back to the same conclusion - that it would no longer be an Elan You might as well take a race car and fit an Elan-style body to it

A moot point and maybe a topic for a whole new thread. Should our cars be preserved as Lotus intended them or is it valid to develop them to the point they lose their origins.

I guess its in my nature to always want to create something new and different. I suspect that Colin Chapman would have felt similarly.

But this is a clear case of thread hijacking so I'll hand it back to LGM

I think that is the point I was trying to make; it makes sense to see how much we can develop / refine our cars to suit specific tasks, but I beleive there's a point where the effort involved in this gets close to a 'clean sheet' project; without the compromise of retaining 'Elan' heritage? It would be an interesting exercise to learn what type of vehicle [that's not currently in existence] people dream about? Trackday car? Sporty electric city car?
So, what to call the new thread?...Blue Sky?...Elan S3???

Would a simple, thin sheet of aluminum do the trick (shapes to size of course)? I luv carbon fiber and all but its going under the car and doesn't need to look good.

A good idea for testing a shape out on the track/wind tunnel! You could also use aero-ply if Aluminium is too expensive.

Sadly enough ....I got it. No not the undertray yet, The carbon kevlar to do it. Better abrasion resistance than just straight carbon and yet of similar weight.

Nothign sad about it. I know you well enough now LGM. You're goign to turn this into a combo undertray and custom front splitter aren't you. You have that mad scientist streak in you that just has to keep pushing the envelope for perfection.

Can't wait to see Elan-zilla when you're finally finished your masterpiece.

I must say, the Nobles have that "something" to their shape, like the Elan, that you can jst stare at for a while. Lovely curves and stunning looks!! Yummy

Doug, It is remarkably Elan esque isn't it. As Marie said, same windows. Even the bits that are not Elan like are very Lotus like, ironic that it was created by an ex engineer of TVR!

What about that carbon undertray Marie? Is that what you are after?

Agree with Doug. The Noble shape is quite pleased to the eyes. With the slope of this windshield, the bonnet line, roof line to the rear, they are drawn more like an art line, handsome looking car.
