Cosmetic Enhancements to the LGM Rollbar

Gazza, yep I have the mesh. It was a new MX5 windblocker purchased off ebay for £17 , no brackets, but as jimbob would say 'Nae bother'.

It mat all go pear shaped when I attempt it though

Blair nice work. When I saw the tabs I thought of a camera mount first -- I don't think there's any way (other than roll the car) that you would get enough flex thru the car and the bar to twist and break any glass mounted in there! Why not use some plexiglass??? Its cheap, you can cut it with a router to whatever shape you want, you can clean it gently, it won't shatter, and you could always make a few of them to replace when it gets scratched up enough . . .

Gave that some thought but the look of glass was too appealing, especially on chrome. I was going to have the Lotus logo sandblasted into the glass but apparently, that might not be advisable when I get the glass tempered. I figure the cost of the glass and tempering will be almost the same as a piece of plexi actually (unless I cut and shape it myself). I can get the glass cut and tempered for about $50 loonies Plexi would cost me $35.

Tempered glass is a bit more brittle so even a little bit of flex might burst the glass. I'd rather not take the chance. I've fitted the gromets into the holes in the tabs and they look practically factory! I'll take shots of the hole setup when I get the glass done in a couple of weeks.

the glass will be fine if you use rubber mounts like you plan.

you could snadblast the flying cat logo on plexiglass you know . . .

Well, I still have the plexi piece Marie sent with the rollbar. I think I'll be keeping that handy for some possible future work

I'm going to install the rollbar this coming weekend then finialize the template for the glass. I don't expect to see the u-channel until the end of next week at best (I'm expecting the week after but who knows). Once its here, I'll work on getting it installed and report back on success or failure. At present, the only issues I foresee are:

1. Did they make it to match the profile I specified.
2. Cutting the perf metal to an exact fit taking into consideration the fact that it has to be tight enough to stay put but also allow a way to fit it into the u-channel
3. Devising a way to mount the u-channel with tape in a way that the metal can be fit into the channel once the channel's stuck into place

Got ideas for all these so cross your fingers everyone. If all goes well, there should be enough for 5 installs (possibly more).

As suspected, the u-channel will arrive before the glass which will now take up to 3 weeks and cost double what they originally said it would

Hopefully, we'll be testing out the u-channel as a mounting scheme this weekend.

Phase 2 is now complete. The newly tempered glass is back and installed. Looks nice too. Am having new u-channel shipped to me as the stuff they sent didn't exactly match the profile I provided. Likely won't be until the weekend after next that I can look at mounting it.

Still have designs on installing some mesh in the hoops with the u-channel I've received. Just been a bit busy with other stuff of late.
