Lotus Elan Central

On June 14/15 my wife and I plan to pay the Lake District a two day visit before heading further north to Scotland.

Do you guys have any suggestions for us where it is best to stay in the Lake District?
B&B or Hotel, a nice place for dinner and a good pub would be very nice

Michael,
This placeis excellent. Good food, good pub, even a micro brewery. However it is well off the usual beaten track, and if you are only going to the Lake district for a day or two, you might prefer one of the more usual areas around Keswick, Coniston, Ambleside or Windermere. They are a bit more touristy, but there's a reason - if you can escape the crowds they are lovely.

I'll leave it to the locals to make a recommendation.

Off to the lake district next week for a week, in a peugeot :shock:

Its at times like this I wish the Elan was a 3 seater, or I was divorced :lol:

Thats the one Michael.

Have been there several times since the 1970's. Even completed the whisky row in one weekend.

Duck and chips in the bar or excellent food in the restaurant.

Even managed to get meningitis there one weekend and a free and very scary ride to hospital. Not the fault of the pub, I hasten to add.

At our last Southern Meet, we were talking about the Top Gear "stretch limos" and reckoned that a stretch elan would make a great project. You'd only need to stretch it enough to get a second row of seats in. I'm sure Geoff could come up with a picture!

This is a modified Elan manufactured as a concept car. (2 + 2 seating)
It was displayed in the '99 Seoul Motor Show.

Can anyone reccomend Keswick as a stopover place or are there better suggestions? Like Windermere, Ambleside, Bowness?

its the wifes birthday on the monday so I might use that as an excuse to take her away for the weekend...

We have planned a two-day visit of the lake district in the first two days, before heading on to Scotland.

We arrive on Thursday morning in Newcastle and drive a scenic route to and through the lake district.
And yes, we and stay there the Thursday night 14/6 and Friday night 15/6. hoping to explore that region on the Friday.
On Satturdaymorning we leave to drive anoher scenic route up to Innerleithen where we will meet with Mark that evening

So, if there is a chance to have a bite and a drink with you and maybe even touring a bit together that would sure be fun

I know you've told me before, but can you just confirm the nights you're staying with us and with bigErch? Then we can try to get some others to meet us for a drive/barbecue/whatever either at my house or at Archie's.

Hi John,
On Sunday night June 24 and Monday the 25th we've made a reservation in Archie's lodge. On Tuesday morning we head to Edinburgh.
On Satturday June 23 we expect to arrive in the Aberdeen region, probably at the end of the afternoon.
So we've got the whole Sunday (+ Monday) to spend in or around the Crampian Mountains and so on.

If it's all right with you and Maggie we would love to visit you again Satturday June 23
