Hello chaps,

Better news this time, the Elan came out tops in their `five grand sports cars ?!', beating:

MGB
MX-5 (uurgh)
Fiat Barchetta
Alfa Spider
Jensen Healey
MGF
BMW Z3
Fiat 124 Spider
TVR S

They particularly liked the steering.

Oliver,
your sounding much more up-beat in this posting!! :-D

............but just spare a thought for the poor TVR S drivers out there, I wonder what their forum is saying about this poll. I reckon they're rubbishing it!! :-D

NOW STOP LOOKING FOR ANYMORE POLLS........QUIT WHILE THE ELAN IS AHEAD! SLEEP SOUNDLY IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE LOTUS ELAN IS THE No 1 CAR EVER, EVER, EVER!

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Well The car I had before the Elan was a TVR S series - so I used them back to back.

Plus points - exhaust note, cheap engine spares, relatively easy to work on, quick, nice styling imho

Negative points - too low ground clearance, shabby build quality, absolute pig in the wet, internal ventilation rubbish (especially when wet), too hot inside (exhaust 5 mm from bottom of floor pan.)

The final straw was part of the wiring loom burning out because Jen accidentally kicked part of it in the footwell.

Anyway, back to topic - I've got the article and the Elan does well. I particularly liked the comment about 'they can't stay this cheap for long'

Bring it on!

Cheers

Hi Chris,

I`ll scan it and send it to them.

To be fair, C & SC liked them all, the Elan just got the nod on account of it`s steering, strange how time changes things. When the Elan was launched it was criticised for it`s lack of steering feel.

a few years ago Evo or Car had a test
Elan vs TVR S, vs 944 vs BMW. Elan came out well in that too which helped me on my way to ownership.
