When changing the clutch kit and to fit the Quaife LSD do we have to take the engine off as to access the gearbox or can we fit these parts while the engine and gearbox are still on the car?

You have to take the gearbox out but not the engine. You 'simply' split them in the engine bay and withdraw the gearbox from beneath. Once out, you can do all the work and refit.

so you don't require the engine off as to take the gearbox off? Is it easy to take it off?

From the service labour times manual, to replace the gearbox should take 3.5 hours
That must be going some!

Nissias,
It isn't an easy job as there are so many bits and pieces to disconnect and the access is generally poor. It helps a great deal if you have a wheels-free vehicle lift as then you can get to the rear of the gearbox much more easily.
Clutch, gearshift cables, engine mounts x 2, cooling, wiring, ignition etc etc all have to come out but it is still marginally easier than removing the whole engine.
Once you have it out, don't just have the Quaife and clutch fitted; recondition the entire gearbox as the effort of removing it far outweighs the additional cost.

thanks for the help guys.
I have another query/problem with the 6-puck clutch I am fitting. My mechanic is worried for vibration problems when starting from stop. He suggested a dry disc instead. Has anyone fitted a 6-puck clutch and had any vibration problems or not?

Must admit about half way thro' doing mine I thought 'it must be just as easy to take the whole lot out' But once you have the whole lump out where do you stop? Cam belt, Alternator, Starter, Engine bay refurb etc etc.
Trouble is most of the hard to get at stuff needs to be done either way. Lifting the box in and out is a challenge without a lift

I only had 2 ins clearance when I finally dragged it out so measure up carefully to make sure you get the car up high enough.

Its all about the angles
Got mine out and back in with no scraping on the clam but it was very tight and had to position the motor just right
