LOG 27 Info Update!!!

Postby lewtus » Wed 20.06.2007, 18:38

Check out www.log27.com for all the latest LOG information.

Emerson Fittipaldi will be the special honored guest during the event.
There will be opportunities for autographs and to meet Emmo. He
plans to attend the track day as well and has been invited to drive
any special cars that may be there (the LOG Committee is working on
getting an especially appropriate car to the event - stay tuned!)

Alain De Cadenet will be the main speaker on Saturday and should have
his usual wit and intelligence on display.

Sunday will feature Peter Darley - former Team Lotus official
photographer during the glory days of Jim Clark. Peter will share his
photos and stories of being part of the winning Team Lotus of the 60's.

Peter Egan - Editor at Large for Road & Track magazine - will be in
attendance during the LOG and will present a special award during the
Saturday banquet. The award will be the Road & Track 'Car I'd Like to
Drive Home" award as selected by Peter Egan himself. Peter is
planning to complete the restoration of his vintage Lotus Elan and if
possible drive it to and from the LOG.

Finally, Clive Chapman - son of Lotus founder Colin Chapman, Classic
Team Lotus Director - will be attending the LOG. Clive is typically
very open to meeting LOG attendees and sharing his personal knowledge
of Lotus.

So add in the Concours in the Colorado Mountains, an autocross, a
special trackday at the private Aspen Motosports Club Woody Creek
Raceway (not normally open to outsiders), spectacular scenic drives,
and the usual great comeraderie of your fellow Lotus enthusiasts and
you have the makings of a truly amazing Lotus weekend!

Better yet, make it a vacation week. There are plenty more great
Lotus roads all over Colorado. The Shelby Museum is in Boulder and
not to be missed for any car buff. Harry Mathews is trying to make
arrangements to open his fantastic car collection for LOG attendees
(more details to come.) Harry has a superb collection that includes a
number of McClaren Can Am and F1 race cars. www.mathewscollection.com

If you haven't made your hotel reservation you should do so soon -
rooms are booking fast. The website also now has photos of the LOG
apparel available when you register for the event.

I will be there with X180Rs #5 and #19 and my M100 Elan. Let's see how many more of our special cars we can bring out!

Just heard my M100 rear bearings fall apart yesterday too...time to get it fixed!

See you all in Aspen in August!

Thanks for all your hard work on this, Lewtus. I'll drive there (each way 1,600 miles, 25 hours, 2 & 1/2 days) but I'm trying to figure out what kind of shape I'll be in for any "Mountain Drives" on Sunday. Track day there is definitely out (I'm passing on a great Lotus track day here next weekend) as I've been nursing my car for the last 6 months in aniticipation of the drive. Then again, when I read Mark Hughes' book about the thrashing the M100 got during development, I feel better about things- but it is a 16 year old car and one never knows. I'll have to call my insurance agent on the way back on the cell to renew my limited mileage policy.

Please mention to Greg Carpenter I appreciate the LOG 27 DVD (on www.lotuscarclub.org) that he was so kind to send me. I showed it to the British Club (50+ members, mostly MG's and Triumphs) here two weeks ago via laptop and projector, and they were stunned.

There is a small chance I may go the transport route, but that ruins the adventure.

On another subject, I recently received the full blown version of the Victory by Design DVD on Lotus. It is a pre-production version sent to me by the producer in England, since my car was in it. It is better than I thought it would be, compared to the Speed Channel version of 40 minutes and 20 minutes of commerical breaks. The entire DVD version is 80 minutes, 50% filmed in England and 50% filmed in the US. The commercial release date to the general public is still up in the air and subject to Speed Channel's schedule- what ever that may be. There is a bonus section on the DVD hosted by Alain DeCadenet on Tom Wheatcroft's Grand Prix collection at Donnington-incredible.

Great to hear yo uare coming we getting the Lotus 72 that Emmo won with sent in from UK as well...Nick Adams, Kimberely and others are booked so there will be more than advertised showing up.
I did LOG in STL with the Elan but a track day will kill off the brake pads for sure and I wanted to make it back!

Lew
PS bring the CD, we can likely play it as well.
I will let Greg know you got the DVD! I never get the cool stuff.

We are still planning on driving from Virginia

Postby DeanG » Sun 01.07.2007, 22:32

We are still planning on driving our M100 from Virginia. We drove cost to coast with it in 2004 and enjoyed the driving. The M100 makes a great GT. It is fast, comfortable, sure footed and has a plenty of luggage space. LOG is a perfect destination for any Lotus. Think of it as the largest collection of help and support in the western hemisphere.

The roads in Colorado are great and the scenery is spectacular. The high altitude keeps the turbo spun up so all the lag disappears.
