Handbrake won`t do much lol

Try with someone on the foot brake, but they can be difficult to remove. Best bet is to drive to a garage and as them to get it off with an impact wrench

leave the car on the ground with all of the wheels still on. Put the car in 5th gear. use a really long 1/2""breaker bar and impact socket on the bolt.... BTW it wouldn't hurt to soak the sucker in penetrating oil. It also helps to turn the wheels to one side to allow "wiggle" room for the socket and extension. tun the bolt counter clockwise with all of the might you can muster. try not to fall on your arse end or worse your face and fender.

If you look carefully it has 2 M6 holes in it. You need to fabricate a tool to bolt on which will stop it turning - I bolted it on, lowered it a bit and the garage floor did the work! Still took a 2 foot long tube on the end of my socket extension to get it of tho'

For shaft end bolts it’s usually better to allow the shaft to turn and use a hammer on a short spanner – the manual equivalent of an impact wrench. I appreciate there isn’t always room to do it. In which case - as Dave suggests, leave the engine in neutral and stop the pulley itself from turning.

Impact wrench is best but you can also make your own tool, checkout the link:

A more risky way would be to use the starter to losen the bolt as discussed above.

Worst case, take off the oil pan and put the handle of a hamer between one of the connecting rods and the block on the intake side of the motor. I bet you can get it off without doing this

Maries' method is the one i used, but with a 6 foot scaffold bar for leverage on the breaker bar :?

I found that it needed a 10" and a 5" extension bar on the nut, and then i went through the spokes on the wheel :? :?

It is great when it finaly gives way though!!!!

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

I've just seen Marie did that recently on my car, with the wheel turned to one side. Very impressive though

After all is well and done, she also told me to get the tools to re-tighten the crankshaft pulley again after 50 miles of driving or so.
