I figured the choice could be with thoughts of going beyond 270HP  :D
At that stage you'd definitely be into a custom-programmed ECU wouldn't you?
Just looking at the IHI next to the Garrett - if I hadn't already seen yours installed, I'd probably have lost money betting it wouldn't fit in our already crowded engine bay :o
Serious-looking piece of kit 8)

The thought of 300+BHP had crossed my mind. The GT2560R is just a more versatile turbo for what I wanted. You are right in assuming that it may require a bit more in the upgrade dept. to achive those kinds of figures though. An ECU and new injectors would most likely be on the list. I'm not planning on it but should the need arrise at least I know I won't have to change out the turbo and that the reliability of the current setup is unparalleled. It helps me sleep better knowing that.

Side note but still very related.... IT JUST LOOKS WAY TO COOL TO SEE THAT TURBO UNDER THE HOOD!!!! IT"S A MONSTER!!!! The awe factor is pretty neat.

Marie (or anyone), related to my post of Aug-6 which lists some potential turbos, does anyone know for sure the largest which will fit in our bay?

It would help if every "Garrett" person with Rafael's adapter would list the turbo they have installed.

Any of the turbos mentioned will fit however, only the GT2560R can be indexed to orient as stock. The others will usually leave the compressor outlet pointing up as in Costas install. The other thing to consider is that larger may not always be better as larger turbos lag more and the engine may not have enough poop to drive it. Garrett's website has a recomended engine displacement for any specific turbo size. The 2560 is the largest recomended turbo given our engine size.

And now Ekapol's turbo upgrade.....

Same turbo that I am using, Garrett GT2560R with an 11 Lb wastegate actuator. Very nice indeed.

It was a fun install to say the least. It went pretty fast considering its pretty much all custom. Deffinitely changes the character of the car. Boost builds much faster than the stock turbo and it has alot more pull in 5th gear, as we found out on the freeway.

I think Ekapol might have something to say about that.....

Back on point, now this is what I think a Lotus engine bay shoul look like. All polished up and balanced. No more "trash can" air filter box. All polished piping and lots of braided steel hose. Mmmmmm, sexy.

Just LoJack the sucker & let's see how creative an insanity defense Doug can pull off. Any experience in that department Doug? You are married with kids; which will qualify as legal grounds in most jurisdictions.

p.s. You ever wonder how many LEC members are in the Witness Protection Program? What gives with all the back-of-head & ass shots? Hmm?

See that black-old-pipe-thingy in the upper-left of the photo? If you're no longer using it I'd like to buy it. Seriously. How much?

And heh, that's a lovely picture of LGM and her another Elan.

I happen to have few more pictures:

Transition period. I was driving like this for a while. Notice my new coolant tank there sitting pretty at north-east position in the picture ... not for long.

We also got some time to change that trickiest samco hose.

I notice coolant leakage these couple of days. 1st time right after I parked at my company parking lot, picked up my laptop in the trunk, then heh.... I can smell the coolant. Looking up, there were smoke everywhere from the front fender. Then it dumped out like a quart of coolant all over. Traced it down to the bottom of the coolant tank. I tried tighten it up all my might with no luck.

The more we tightened it, the more it leaked. WTF-uss.

This morning I took the tank out. Then I go.. holy cow

Guess they don't make it like they used to huh :?

Did Marie fabricate the replacement for the pre-cat housing?
And fit it too?
From experience I know that that is a helluva job.
How lucky are you that she's in your vicinity!
