Dear Al,

Are you sure you don't want me to send off the non-existent, not even DB shows them on the books 90-deg-Fed-hose to Amber? I'm certain I can cobble something functional in the interim.

This one hose is keeping me from getting my car to the condition that my psychological disorders demand; so really, it is a matter of medical need for me.

If you change your mind and are willing to accept aid in this, please let me know.

Sincerely, Matt

Al, didn't mean to come off harsh about the Wilwoods or bug you about the Samco's. Sorry if I did.

I was under the car Sunday & I really do need new hoses though; it's a matter of rubber-deterioration because of time. 80% of the hoses show evidence of leaks in the past. The t-stat to rad hose with the missing 90-deg-bend is holding if not perfect, but I need to replace the rest. Think I'll contact Samco about this & just order the missing hose later. Make sense to you?

Dear Matt:

Let's do this: Order the Samco Fed set from Amber Performance. This should get you all of the hoses except for that odd little elbow that goes between the metal tube and the radiator on the left hand or driver's side. I have bought two of those odd little elbows from Dave Bean and will be sending one to James today, in fact, so that Samco can start making the moulds for it.

If you can, try to re-use the odd little elbow off of your car with the Samco hoses. That is what I did two nights ago. If you cannot, I'll send you the other hose I received yesterday and you can use it until the Samco replacement arrives.

PM me your address if that is what you want me to do.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

OK will do. I thought you had said DB didn't have any of the little-elbows at all.

I bought the original Amber kit (the 1st ever offered) so I'll have to mail-back the Euro hoses, etc. Hope that won't take forever (in other words, that he won't ship the replacement hoses until he receives the Euro hoses back).

Thanks, Matt

Dear Matt:

When I first talked with Dave Bean, we were looking for a "hose" or something like that. That came up with nothing in the parts manual or in their systems. When I pulled my hoses the other night and found a part number on it, I was able to look it up and it is called a "connector" or something like that. He had two in stock and I bought them so that I could send one to James and have a spare on hand in case you or Ian or someone else needed to make a move before I was able to completely get this finished up. Worst case, a spare for me while I wait for the Samco hose.

Dear All:

Today I confirmed with James at Amber Performance that he received what I hope is the final unique hose to the Fed Elans and that it is on its way to Samco for reproduction. I will keep you all posted.

Again, please accept my apologies for this screw up.

Sincerely,

Fed set complete?

Postby tigerdog » Sun 13.04.2008, 22:33

Hello All! Smaug used the public forum of the annual San Diego Rolling British Car Day to inform me of his need for a new hose set. After overheating on bridge in Balboa Park, we got him cooled down and nursed home, but clearly some hose or another is split (looks like it's up near the coolant tank.) Anyway, I've emailed James this afternoon but was curious to find out whether the Fed set will now be truly complete. Thanks to everyone (Algirdas especially) who's worked so hard to make Fed hoses readily available!

Samco Silicone

Postby algirdas » Mon 14.04.2008, 01:35

Dear All:

I spoke with James April 9th, 2008 and he informs me that Samco is having a real tough time reproducing that funky little hose. Can't seem to get the tooling right for those two tight 90 bends according to James. He added that Samco is going to give it one last (according to James, sixth and last) try. After that, we are back to rubber or our own devices.

I'll keep on top of this until the bitter end.

Sincerely,

I've scoured the parts guide; page 334 illustrates the cooling hoses but the fed hose isn't shown. Page 335 lists a "connector pipe - bottom hose" part number B100K0073F for Fed/SIR cars. This part is not illustrated, though, so it's difficult to say with certainty whether the part number is correct.

Edit: B100K0073F is not the correct part number. This is the number for the metal pipe joining the main lower rad hose to the branch hose serving the electric coolant pump.

Tigerdog,

I'm not sure what the hose you mean actually looks like, as i have not seen one!

However, I do have a different version of the parts book which is primarily for LHD cars (EUR & FED) and it gives the following picture and part numbers - i don't know if any of it helps you out, but maybe you can identify which bit you need from this info????

Dave, thanks for the posting - it's definitely different than the illustration in my parts book. The differences are interesting, too: it seems pretty obvious that Lotus' solution to the Fed radiator positioning was to hack segments out of the standard plumbing and replace with appropriate lengths of metal tubing to make up the difference in length! However, I still don't see the hose in question. There's a photo earlier in the thread in this entry.

I presume the two hoses in Matt's post are the top and bottom radiator hoses that correspond to items 16 and 48 - the bottom hose is D100K0004F.

In the manuals on LEC, the only SIR equipped bottom hose listed is B100K0077F.

I agree, but to be fair, it looks like Lotus worked on it because D signifies 4th revision of K0004F and B signifies second revision of K0077F. Question is, will they all do the same job?

One thing I can't work out from Matt's picture is where the header tank/pump hose connects though. :smt017

Samco Silicone

Postby algirdas » Mon 26.05.2008, 15:48

Dear Tigerdog:

Its that double 90 degree hose that is causing all of the problems for Samco. I tried calling James today but got no answer. Last time I talked with him, he said he would be contacting Samco to get a status update.

I have one of those hoses out and will try to get a part number off of it since it apparently is listed in the book, but is not pictured.
