Here is possibly the best S2 upgrade.... what seems to be (but as yet unproven) a +12v supply that is easily accessible in the engine bay.
I have checked this against my SE and can confirm that there is no such arrangement on my 91 elan.

Well, given the news from cjay, it seems some exported S2s had body-colour-matched painted surrounds of the third brake light -- this is unique to the S2.

Be careful not to short your battery out with spanners etc when working in that area!
Disconnect your battery first! But dont worry, if you forget to do it, you'll get a nice reminder!

My battery is currently disconnected and the post would normally have a plastic cover, I removed the cover to get access and discovered it

Did I hear somewhere that the S2 has a lights-on warning buzzer?
If so, does anyone know if it's just a standard Vauxhall plug-in jobby, where it's located and what it sounds like?

The manual says that the 'lights on' buzzer module is a direct replacement for the interior lamp delay module located in the relay station above the drivers footwell. It looks as though they simply switch out - I cant find any S2 cct diagrams to confirm this though; but must be worth a try!
The Lotus part number for the buzzer is A082M6586F - I'd guess theres a GM part x-ref.
It may be worth a visit to the local Vauxhall parts dealer -its soemthing I would want to do aswell.

If it is a Vauxhall one, then it buzzes rather than bongs (like a Ford). That part number looks suspiciously like a GM one as well. My '86 Cavalier buzzed even with the engine running. They fixed this soon afterwards.
I would happily sacrifice the interior light delay because it is so dim that I can hardly seee it.

I didn't even realise there WAS an interior light delay, so that's how much I use it!!!
But after at least one embarrassing car park experience (

) I know how useful an annoying buzzer would be.
Seems a bit odd that the inputs for vehicle external lighting would go into the same place as interior lighting, but I'm happy to give it a go.
Thanks Paul - nice one!

GM part number: 90 240 664 (Astra) or older, noisier unit 90 464 777 (Carlton) according to
a Carlton website.
Full part markings:
Hella Summer 12V
35B 004 436-03
90 240 664
23 02888

but what the hell. Another interesting statement on the Carlton site....
"The VW/Audi group wash wipe relay contains some electronics to allow a variable intermittent wiper delay for the windscreen wipers. Times from 1/2 a second to more than 30 seconds can be set. You first select intermittent wipe, then switch it off, select intermittent again to set the time delay! Best of all the relay is a drop in replacement, just remove the current one and drop in the VW one. Get one from your nearest VW garage, part number 357 955 531."
I built one for my Anglia in 197? and it was the dog's doodahs as wipes were either on or off in those days.

Funny - I was just wondering about that this morning.
While driving to work in a Ford Focus which has variable intermittent wipe combined into the end of the stalk, I thought "I wonder if a Carlton/Senator/Cavalier has this as a bolt-on replacement"?
Would make a seamless mod, and quite a good one after the recent "Summer"!
"Gate - horse - bolted" anyone...?

Mine has a clamp which retains both the wheel brace & jack handle and a sprung clip to retail jack. Unlike this:
