Show Plates

You could argue that this is in the wrong section, but I was thinking that it would be nice to have an alternative set of plates to attach at shows.

I was thinking something along the lines of ELAN M100 as the registration on a white front plate with our LEC username in small lettering at the bottom. Maybe a Lotus badge on the left, where the euro symbol is on some plates?

I think it would look great at shows if we have a line-up of Elans with matching numbers. I was thinking of usernames, but 9 letters is the max so this would not work for all of us.

Any thoughts?

ps I'm guessing this'll be something that 'clips' over the exosting plate rather than taking the plates on and off
pps in theory we only need something to stick over the front plate.....wouldnt need to be a number plate only something in the 'style' of a number plate and the same size

The rear plate would be awkward for an early SE (like mine) with the perspex cover, but isn't it normally the front which is most visible anyway?
My plates are stick-on, and plate sticky-thingys are far from temporary.

It was Josler's idea in a way. He saw a car with something similar to RIP on it's plate at Bishops Stortford show yesterday, and drew my attention to it.

I will try to find if quick clip-on parts are available.

Nearly. Remember I want it for shows. Most visitors will not even know what an M100 is, let alone LEC.
I did think about the Lotus logo, but that is on the bonnet anyway?
I was thinking about having the cat on skates logo on the left, ELAN M100 where the number goes, then rip in small letters along the bottom. I don't want it too flash either - it may detract from the logo.

I will get a prototype done and take it along to our next East Mids meet to see what others think.

What do you guys think of that plate? Font, should Elan & M100 be the other way around?

I was thinking of several of us havning similar ones (the small lettering on the one above says 'rip', but I was thinking we could all have our own forum name there).

At a public show, I think it would look good if the entire line-up of Elans had matching plates.

I am particularly pleased with the LEC logo on the left. I would like it on my road plates but it is illegal, although you would be unlikely to get pulled for it.

I had that plate done for under a tenner at a shop local to me which specialises in showplates. Maybe I could negotiate a group buy?

I like the idea, but I think it should be M100 ELAN. I'd also prefer a font more similar to the standard UK font (maybe 3D effect though). Had a quick play on this site for ideas http://www.4plates.co.uk/builder.asp

I was unsure about M100 being first or last and the font, so I am glad you spoke your mind.

The place where I went was http://www.myshowplates.com/designer1.asp . They are local to me and can offer more if you visit them in person (like the cat on skates). Visiting them saved me postage, which is included in their site prices.

Not at all. I wanted to hear other's opinions.

I am interested to hear if anyone wants a 'corporate plate', but would like to get it right first.
