Aintree

Postby Dico » Mon 01.10.2007, 12:53

Me and Murph are off to Aintree on Saturday if anyone fancies popping along.
Murphs driving the striped beast, i'm just going along so I can be thrown around in the passenger seat (no, not in a gray way gary!) for a day.
4+ hours stuck in a damp bucket seat with a mad Irishman at the wheel - Deep joy!!!!

Think all the places have gone, you have to send the form of ASAP once it`s gone live to get a place. I`ve not done aintree before so looking forward to it but it`s 10 minute sessions :? so can`t see me doing it again. There`s a few NORLOGers going to thats why i`m just going for a laugh really.

IIRC it`s £10 for a passanger which u can pay on the day, u`r welcome to have a pax ride once Dico has been :smt078 it`ll be an early start for me ie get there for 7.30 at the latest, but passangers can get there later as i don`t think they have to be at the briefing :? say 9am to 10am

Liverpool salvage yards have had a busy day!

At least Murph and the striped beast made it back in one piece. Handled as well as ever.
Sadly one of the many smashed up vehicles was an Elise :?

Sorry to hear there was damage done. Glad you both avoided problems.

Did you enjoy yourselves? Any pictures? Opinions of Aintree and organisers?

The weather up here's been brilliant, so I hope you got sun too.

I was just a passenger (fortunately).
Weather was perfect.
It quite a good day but it was a 'sessioned' event which meant each group (and there were 4 groups) only got to go out for 10 minutes at a time. So in theory you got to go out fo 10 minutes every 40. In practice however we only probably managed 6 or 7 times in total due to the long winded breifing, and the multiple breakdowns and smashes :? .
There were 2 crashes involving 2 cars in each, 1 of which involved the Elise which got side swiped by a Subaru after spinning. The Elise then ploughed into a big bale of hay, smashing the windscreen!
Another smash involved 2 souped up japanese racers ploughing into each other. One was quite badly damaged. The driver proceeded to chase the other driver round the race track
Another involved a Westfield type which ran into the solid embankment :(
The track itself seemed a little dangerous in my opinion. There were no run offs as such and no gravel traps.

Knob of the day went to a Corvette driver. An absolute plonker who should have been removed!

Footage to come via Murph and his crackly cam corder.

Oh, and we tink his head gasket has blown....... for the 3rd time this year!

Glad you guys managed to steer yourselves around the trouble. Monty's a good driver so thats to be expected.

sounds like you had the Muppet show on the track today, a lot of pissed off faces at home at the mo. Your report is going to put a lot of peeps off doing track but honesty is the best policy. This sounds like a poorly organised and inappropriate track venue.

I really hope that its not hgf but Monty does drive the beast hard and fast so mechanical failure is bound to be ramped up the scale.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Yep i had a great day and wasn`t as bad as Dico makes out  but some people do push the limit and you have to be prepared for something going wrong :? The old git (Dico`s age) in the Corvette was just not pulling over and kept out braking himself and had a spin and IMHO he shouldn`t of been in the intermediate at one point going down the straight at 110 trying to over take him and just got a head but he just stayed on the inside line (right hander) and didn`t slow down and he had to lock his brakes and thought oh here we go his going to wipe me out as i turn in

I really enjoyed Aintree as it`s quite a fast circuit (1.5 miles) but it`s quite bumpy, the 10 minute sessions are a killer saying that it wasn`t a bad thing as i was getting slight temperature issue which i think it`s the beginning of a head gasket failure  and was planning on doing Oulton next month

Anyways a bit tyred and just stuffed my face with a Madras so i`ll sort some footage out another day.

errr Jay, when we went to Bedford I don't think there were any crashes, people chasing others round the track. everyone went away happy and content. In comparison this sounds like a blood bath. Enjoy your curry!

Chris,
thats cause there`s very little to hit there and if u remember there where plenty of spins. At Aintree there`s a quite a few things to hit ie styles that the horses jump  you can see them in the vids

and here are the vids
