DaveT

Having given this some more thought, and seeing as you could get the impression that you've been hit with a double whamy (moving and locking of your thread), I'll explain the reasoning behind my actions and my assumptions about the actions of others.

I moved the thread for two reasons:
a. To keep it in the same area as its parent subject (like we do with Stoneleigh and Donington photos).
b. To confine the carp posts to as small an area of the forum as possible.

Some time between me moving it and you revisiting it, one of the moderators (I'm assuming Ailwyn, but I care not who) probably decided that it was more appropriate to keep all of the East Mids meet's postings in one thread and locked it.

Perfectly good reasoning in my mind. Actually, it also shows that there's no conspiracy, because we were working independently.

Dave,

Sy's reasoning above is spot on.

I would suggest that if you want a picture thread, assuming Sy is ok with it, then you should create a picture thread for the East Mids Meets, and in there should ONLY be picture posts.

I would be happy with the above, but if the usual "banter" ensued then I would be minded to lock the thread - there is plenty of leeway on the meet thread for comments/carp posts regarding the pictures.

Will one of you moderators please explain to me if these posts in the East Midland Thread, actually do any harm, as in using up valuable space or something, as i'm quite baffled as to why we now seem to be being selected :?

As a future moderator maybe I can explain.

Some pictures from the east midlands bash held last night were posted in the 'Picture gallery', and have since been moved to the relevant 'East midlands thread'

Paul,

There is no targeting, and as far as I can figure there is no physical detriment from the posts on the EM thread.

The problem is that 75% of the posts in the EM thread add no real value and just serve to fill in the space, which detracts from the purpose of the thread.

I have no problem with banter and will partake when the mood takes me.

Please keep in mind that the role of the moderators and admins is to keep the site relevant.

If you want to create threads full of banter why not use the dark side? That way, when the conversations die down, the threads will be automatically deleted. There is no benefit in these carp posts so no real reason to keep them in the EM meet thread.

Also remember that all this excitement is about a new thread, in the meets section for the same meeting as this thread covers.

Erm no Mr Dicko ( :smt019 ) - this is the relevant thread - the other is irrelevant according to the real mod because he locked it. There is only one pic from last night on this thread (which to be fair as a future mod you posted)!

Can the real mods not transfer them onto here so that all the carp ( thought it was spelt crap) is on here?

8)

Thanx to Ailwyn and Sy for their erudite responses. Whilst those explanations might be valid I would add that there was nothing wrong in my posting the photos in the photo gallery- as that does seem to be what it is there for. If a moderator has a problem with the following posts on that thread why not take issue with those who added the posts that were deemed to be inappropriate? Additionally, Sy, having decided to move the post, would it have hurt to have just sent me a quick pm explaining why and all this could have been avoided?

ps to Ailwyn- if you want to avoid personal lambasting perhaps it would be better to avoid confrontational comments in other threads where you are recorded as offering to "sort out the East Mids lot"

Perhaps the new moderators could do with a moderator?

I also offered to sort out Geoff too, perhaps that's why he's gone quiet lately... but I doubt it. (I knew I'd spoken too soon)

As for my personal lambasting... I'll consider myself suitably chastised
