Rear Bumper Mounting Bolts

Having just removed my rear bumper (1992 SE) I found that one of the four main screw threads had come away from the inside of the bumper i.e. it was mounted in the fiberglass and is no longer

Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone have recommendations on the best way to re-fiberglass in new mounting bolts?

PaulP has had the same problem..... But hasn't fixed it.

Probably fibreglassing it back into place is your best option

It's impoertant that there is NO grease or dirt whatsoever, plus the original fibreglass needs to be "keyed" by scoring and sanding it to make it rough. Mix the resin exactly as described and DO NOT move or mess with it as it is curing and make sure you don't do it outside at this time of year.

Use a stubby brush to pad the resin and rub it against the original fibreglass to make sure its bonded properly. most sure the glass matting goes in different directions to get the best strength

So Flipper, as far as I am aware you have repaired said bumper. I was merely suggesting you may be able to help.
But as you haven't answered Kenns question I can only assume you are deliberately being unhelpful or, you haven't carried out a repair?

Kenn, i do have a bumper with the same problem as yours. I bought it 2nd hand, & as yet have not repaired it.
If i remember when my car was hit up the rear, they had a similar problem, & repaired it with some stuff that came out of a tube, think it was called Rhino Bond ?, but i don't know if its a trade only stuff or not.

Thanks anyway for the entertainment and advice (mikeydude). I've got the fiberglass, resin, brush and self amalgamating tape (more about that later) and will set to work over the next few days. I'll take pics and if successful will share them.

Kenn if you re laminate the GRP you can soften the existing surface with a little acetone to get a better bond. You can fill any voids with resin mixed with a load of fibres cut from some glass cloth.
