Lotus Elan Central

Myself and Tim are bored already and need to do something fun before IOM'08. We are planning to drive my clapped out Elan from Lands End to John O'groats Using as few Motorway miles as is practical. No fixed date yet but mid to late spring is looking most likely.

Basically an 800+ mile blast up the country over three days planned to take in as many good roads as is possible. Then Just turning around and heading back towards home down the east coast Stopping off in Newcastle where a bonkers night out is the order of the day. Then heading back to Rugby down the M1 to drop Tim off back to his very patient new wife the following day.

I really haven't got time to organise this to the N'th degree so many aspects of the trip may be a bit spontainious but if any one wishes to tag along for all or part of the trip they would be very welcome. Also I need locals along the route to send me info on the best roads (most fun not most direct) to take.

As a rough guide we will be going up the north coast of cornwall devon and somerset. Nipping across the old severn bridge then heading straight up the welsh border crossing east beneath Manchester to climb through the peak district and the Yorkshire dales then the plan starts to fizzle a little but it will be up through scotland some how to JO'G.

When you get to Scotland I'd say that the Moffat road - A701 - from Moffat to Edinburgh is worth taking in :-)

Joe - I'd be up for some of this pending dates.

If you need an organiser try (dis)LECTCiC aka SB aka Dave hub caps T as he's good at these things.

He can pax with me as well if he wants.

I dont mind doing a bit of planning for your peak district stint....
I know a good b n b which a few of the LECers have stopped at (chris t and paul and larisa watkins to be precise)

Know some good roads too- not necessarily direct but quieter and fast bendy driving.

Joe I'm considering a January Jaunt down here which might fill in the gap- food included.

Can join you for the last 100 miles to John O'Groats. Most of the good corners have been removed from the A9 though - still has some bends and there a few b roads if you don't mind an extra 20 miles or so.

This place belongs to BigErch www.gairnshiellodge.co.uk so should be a good place to stay. There are some good roads around there as well.

I'm up for it. I return to UK on 26th March and could probably manage Thu, Fri, Sat. Maybe not the whole LOG but should be able to meet somewhere once I have your itinerary.

Family event on Sunday which have to attend, though.
