I'm tempted to take the route through the lakes but its all open to suggestion.

Lands End A30 and A39 across Devon on the A3072 to Tiverton and then North through Exmoor to pick up the coast road. Across Somerset to pick up the M5 and head into SS land. North on the A449 to Monmouth and the A49 north to Shrewsbury. A5 west to the evo triangle and back to Shrewsbury. A53 from Shrewsbury to Stoke and A34 to Macclesfield and through to Buxton via the Cat and Fiddle. East to Bakewell and then north to the Ladybower resevoir and the Snake Pass west to Glossop. Holmfirth, Huddersfield Halifax and Keighley to the A65. A65 to Settle. North to hawes and the buttter tubs pass north of Hawes. On to Kirkby Stephen and Brough. Penrith and Carlisle. A7 to Selkirk. A72, A721 A73 to Kilsyth and West to A81 via A891. A821 through to Callendar. A 84, A85 and A82 to Fort William. A82 north. Then via A9 to Thurso and JOG.

yep.....if your doing the whole trip it'll be about double that depending on the route you take home....1085 is 1 way only so dont forget to factor in the getting there and getting home

In that case I can see all cars with passengers in, but half being left somewhere in the middle, with a change of cars and seats at the mid point. Then we get half the mileage each.

Dagnabbit!

Got all busy at work again.

Not saying anything new here but taking key comments from all Shall we agree that the route posted above is the first draft route subject to a few local tweaks and the trip is to take place during the week preceeding Donny 'O8 so that the journy home Joins one of the Donny convoys from the northeast (M1).

Its worth considering that we will all drive 1000 miles in three days along fast roads but not motorways. We will be doing well to average 40mph over the trip so that is at least 25hrs driving over 3 days or 8.5 hrs per day minimum plus breaks its going to be intense especially when my navigator won't have a driving license.

Great. That should get me there in time to walk home, pick up the Elan and get to Donny a week after everyone else.
I will be able to wave to the Elaners as they pass me as well.
