Dave's shortshift - now under the management of Bob Brown

Postby DeeAitch » Tue 05.06.2007, 21:41

Some refer to the OE gearshift as a celery stick – mine felt more like a pudding stirrer when I first bought my car!
For me it spoilt the whole experience so I set out to develop a bolt on conversion to improve matters. You can read the full saga of this development here if you have a few hours to spare! If not here are some of the endorsements which have kept me going through the dark times:
“I have had the kit installed for some months now and its superb
It gets 10/10 from me”

“what an immense difference”

“The result is nothing short of a miracle. The gearshift feels like a normal car!”

“The combination of the AB cables, solid mounts, and short shift is nothing short (no pun intended) of making a huge difference in the fun factor of the Elan.”

"who the hell needs Bill with quality kits like this one made by a true Elan owner"

“No more rubbing elbow to the centre console when you can wrist-shift”

“You wouldn't guess from using it that it’s a cable shift at all.”

“The short-shifter is definitely a big improvement.”

“Your MK II short shift kit has transformed my car”

The resulting Mk2 kit is now available for £75 + £3 for UK P&P (overseas shipping by prior agreement at 'cost').
An esteemed member of LEC recently achieved fitting of this kit in around 20 mins but full fitting instructions are included if you decide to take your time!
Please send a PM if you are interested.

For what it is worth, I bought one of Dave's first kits and it is one of the best quality after market parts avalible and after installation made a hell of a difference in the feel of the shiffter, this is a must do upgrade! For the price there is no excuse for not getting one :D

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Sun 10.06.2007, 07:05

Dear All:

I too have no connection to Dave or his shortshift kit, but I cannot say enough good things about it. It truly did transform the car. The original shifter mechanism from start to finish is woeful by today's standards. Just changing the fluid in the box, putting new E clips on the end of the stock cables and Dave short shift kit made such a big difference that I am wondering if the AB Cables and solid shifter bushings are even necessary. I know they are, but the point I am making in a roundabout way is that I am having trouble envisioning the shifting getting any better.

I'm going to go with the AB Cables simply because I know how frail are the original cables and the last thing I need is for them to go just this side Two Cabins, Wyoming.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Those 3 things are sold by 3 different people! :?
Dee Aitch for the short shift kit,
WillB for AB cables,
And I don't know about the headlight fix kit because I've never had to do it.

IIRC Rodney Dickman is the man for the headlight fix, if it's gears you are talking about that is :? Price for the shortshift is on the very first post of this thread, PM me if you need more info :D

WillB is UK contact for AB's parts - I didn't realise they also did headlight kits so he may be able to help on those as well!
