Elise shift/gear knob ?

Will the Elise shift knob fit an Elan ?

Looked around on the site but couldn't find the answer.

IIRC, it requires re-tapping the shift lever, because I think the size/thread isn't the same.

I went with a chrome knob from an ebay seller in Brazil that has the Lotus logo on the top. It's the kind that slips on and has a couple of set screws to hold it. The nice thing is it sits at least an inch lower than the stock knob, so I get the effect of shortening the lever, without having to do anything irreversible.

I've seen photos of your shift knob - looks really sharp. On looks alone I'd go the same route. However, I had a metal shift knob in my old RSX Type S (the one from the Honda S2000) and even with that car having a roof that knob still got COLD in the winter and HOT in the summer. Just not a pleasant experience.

So, I'm tending to shy away from metal shift knobs. Alternatively to the Elise knob I am considering a carbon fiber knob. What I've sorta/kinda got in mind is a carbon fiber knob - one with a shift pattern "emblem" (such as an OBX) on the top and removing and replacing that emblem with a Lotus emblem (perhaps from a lapel pin or some such).

Another couple of question for you. Did it shorten the throw much from the original knob ?

Which Elise knob did you use ?

There's a half leather/half alum. Elise knob I'm thinking of buying.

Ditto. I too did the full metal jacket thing. Looks good, feels bad. As such I've a metal one used & also one brand spankin' new if anyone's interested. It's comfort over aesthetics / clean & tidy over flashy & brassy for things that come in contact with corporeal me.

That said I'm still a sucker for fine wood like the one I had in my Maserati. But to make that work in the Elan you'd have to redo the whole bloody interior!

Well, not sure what size the leather top half/alloy bottom half shift knob is but I tend to like my shift knobs a bit on the small side.

Anyway, I've placed a bid on one. Hopefully I'll get it at a decent price. It may not be a steering wheel upgrade but it's a start and should be a LOT easier to fit.
