But if your that concerned about cow hide, don't buy an Elan, cause every one had it in originally, so your going against your own ethics if you do.
Hey Paul, apologies for the language, but your comment was pretty personal and directly offensive towards the way I choose to live my life, not really light hearted in any way. Yeah, it's true what you say about not buying an Elan as it does go against my ethics, but I was really just trying to look for a potential solution/option more than anything.

If you disagree with daisy the cow being slaughtered for tasty steaks and more relevantly car-seat covers then I get that - but the last time a daisy cow could have been killed for our lovely cars would have been in 1995 for S2 #800 - 13 years ago!! The deed has long since been done to all the cows which helped upholster our fab cars and so ripping out the seats they died to cover and getting rid of them is pretty redundant now, and means that poor daisy died for much less. At least if you kept the seats then you are surely doing the animal more justice - morally speaking!?
Ta for listening - carry on argueing!

Aye, true enough what you say that it doesn't directly alter the fact that there is/was animal (by)product(s) in the car, and by ripping them out it doesn't change that fact. Generally it is, or would be, hypocritical of me to do that, not really any different from buying a second hand leather jacket or something like that. But, I also believe in not being so strict that it feels like veganism is repressing my life, or enjoyment of life, in any way, and this is the dilema really.

No, of course not, and I don't mind the light hearted 'ribbing'

It's just that Paul's comment was pretty derogatory towards a serious post/decision I was trying to find out about, and a bit too personal really. I can take a joke as good as the next person (I think

Yeah, good point. It is just like when I bought that fur coat and turned it into shell. You didn't see my post on furcoatcentral.com did you??

Even the London underground uses springs on its upholstery which I am reliably informed come from tigers bottoms.
For sure, complete avoidance of all animal suffering is impossible, but the/my ideal is to minimise my direct cause of any... which is why I never sit on those tiger seats in the underground
Paul.P wrote:Bad manners or speaking the truth ?, i would like to think the latter, because however you look at it an animal skin was used in the making of every Elan, so trying to mask that fact by changing it, won't bring the animal back or prove any other point. Can't even seriously think it would clear ones conscience if your a true vegan ?
Aye, it wouldn't really. I guess the only real ethical option would be to buy one with no leather in it (which is probably almost impossible) or to opt for another car.
Of course, I still really like Elans...
