Floppy Gearstick

Came to a stop at a set of traffic lights this morning and my gearstick was all floppy.

Straight away new it was the cables as it happens all the time on here, but though S2's had better quality cables.

Managed to limp to Sinclaires in 2nd gear in under 5 minutes as I wasn't that far away, luckily. Phoned them up from outside and got someone out to investigate.

2 minutes later I was on my way, with a new clip to replace the one that had broken off, that holds our superior cables in place.

whats the difference between the S2's and AB's then?

AB cables don't use the plastic ends or clip. At the tranny, the attachment plate is replaced by a custom-made bracket. The cables themselves have long threaded sleeves on the end which pass through the bracket. Large nuts are tightened against the bracket to hold the cables in place. AB supplies a specially-made wrench to do the adjusting - very thoughtful! A bit fiddly, maybe, but the whole assembly is much more solid than the stock quick-adjust mechanism. There are photos on
