from being on track with Monty, i would say that seats and belts are v.important, he has good seats and 4 point harness. Having driven my car on track with standard leather seats and belt, what monty has got is a must if you're going to drive the car fast. Driving the standard Elan at full tilt is quite exhausting because a lot of your energy is used in holding on!
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Oh, and definition of Phantom: describes something that you imagine exists or that appears to exist, although in fact it does not.
