As i seemed to spend most of the Saturday morning this year in the car park doing my best 'Del Boy' buying and selling just to empty the boot, then lurking round the LEC stall for the rest of the day, I'd rather like to actually look around the show!

That said, I will happily chuck my name down for a stint on the stand when the rota comes out, as i won't have a car full of aftersales stock this year

An Update

With agreement of the keeper of the kitty I bought a 'pop up stand off e-bay' a week or so ago, Muley has kindly collected it from the seller for me and I will collect it from him at the next Southern meet. The stand is quite large (2.3m tall and 3.2m wide) and is curved. Muley tells me that the frame will fit into the boot of Elan (this was the plan) but the case (dustbin sized) it comes in is more suitable for space travel and would survive re-entry, it may however fit in the passenger side of an Elan, we will find out in due course. The stand is the frame only and we will need to find a covering for it before Donington. Purpose made covers can be bought but I aim to keep the cost down and when I get the frame from Muley I'll see what I can come up with.

Dave Eds has kindly volunteered to put his car on display and this week I received all the necessary stuff from Club Lotus, Sam is ahead of the game this year as she is having a baby next month. I have a further car pass and exhibitors pass if anyone else wishes to put their car on display inside the hall, just remember that once it goes in the hall on the Friday it doesn't come out until the show ends on the Sunday. I'll be happy enough if we only have one car. Dave Eds will also supply a projector and I have asked Enright if he can do the laptop and picture show using the stuff we have used before. We may use the same display material we've used before but if I get the chance I'll see about getting some new stuff done. My priority is to sort out a covering for the stand and hopefully some sort of LEC banner, all at minimum sensible cost.

I will be at Donington on Friday afternoon to set up and would welcome help from anyone else who is there then, if you can help please post here. Also if you are able to contribute in any way to the stand (other than doing a stint standing on it during the weekend) please let me know. I could use help from anyone who can get artwork professionally printed at no or low cost or can provide material suitable for a projector screen or to cover the stand frame work, if you can help please get in touch.

I still like Sy's Gazebo idea but have not investigated further so that remains for someone else to do.

First things first, he needs to learn how to spell 'IT' first!

We're really looking forward to Donny this year. For your reference, the LEF pop up was over £400 when printed and doesn't fit in my Esprit but does take up the back seats of Laura's 'Corsa of Fury'.

If I did it again, I'd probably look for a cheaper and more compact one but this one is very durable and professional.

We're also bringing the Lotus PR pop-up this year which is going to stretch the Corsa (I'll be heading up in a 2-eleven I hope!) and with everything else we're not a million miles away from needing to buy a van for all this stuff!

Bibs, we'll have to compare pop-ups at Donington .

LEC is still in the market for a Gazebo type of shelter but we don't need this for Donington. What LEC do now have is a 3m wide x 2.3m tall pop-up display stand that can be used as a backdrop to any other display we put in front of it. I have a few fixtures and fittings still to get but for a grand total of a around £160 and a bit of effort we have a display stand that seems to sell for at least £750 and usually a lot more elsewhere.

Well done Nige - I didn't realise just what a result you'd pulled off there with your pop-up!

I guess with a month to go it's about time to start asking for a few people to pledge their support by manning the stand for a bit.
If you can spend an hour here or there and let us know if you'll be bringing anything along for display/sale then it will help with the planning/layout.
Ideally we'll need 2 (or even 3) people per hour slot to cover for us being mobbed, pee-breaks, security etc.
But it will at least give you chance to park your bum for a while and chat to like minded nutters, so it's usually pretty good fun.
And there will be a list of frequently required numbers and a message pad handy, so you shouldn't get stuck in the embarrassing position of not being able to answer people (well not for very long anyway).
Plus it's a really good opportunity to put faces to the screen names. Then you know who to hide from!

I plan to bring:

A cylinder head assembly including turbo, cam cover, CAS, & intake plenum,
A seat and a stool,
An extension lead,
A couple of wheels,
The posters, display sheeting & LEC owned stationery,
The remaining mugs, key fobs and a new batch of 100 sets of window stickers.
