I've got one of those frequency/vibration related rattles...

Has anyone got an idea what it could be?

Symptoms

1900 RPM , 3rd gear...It sounds like a metalic loose screw and washer under the dash...

Location

Lefthand side of the dash...

Middle of the ripples to the centre left windscreen blower vent

What it's not

Glove Box
ECU
The plastic ducting...(Stuck foam in between close structures)
Biancle cover
The stero
interseat console

Other

How easy is it to remove the dash?

How easy is it to remove just a windscreen vent?

What could it be...

Dash is a sonofab to remove.

Little vents at bottom of screen - one screw and small screwdriver.

Vents that can be directed to side windows have a very hard to get to screw.

I need some help please..

Whilst searching for my rattle.. I droped a heater blower screw..

What damage could that possibly do... :shock:

Not much.... unless it lands behind the fuse box...

I tell you it's quite bright when your heads next to it... laid on your back, with your feet on the head rest...

There's a strange smell in the car now... but I think it was me.. :wink:

So my flurry of questions..

How do you remove the whole fuse box assy in a one-er? ..

How is the dash board held in at the front? Is there any screws?

What's the easiest way to remove the heater blower and housing?

Has any one seen my Volvo keys.?. I need my hard copy Lotus manual..

All I can say is Bugger!!

It gets worse...

Removed the fuse box... Got the screw... :-)

Checked the fuses... Look ok..

Checked the wires... Look ok...

Turned the ignition key... Pump failed to prime

Tried to start the car... she started instantly as normal when cold..

But very quickly died..

Any ideas as to which fuse/relay has blown

Oh... found my Volvo keys... :wink:

I'm guessing Fuse A3 could be the bezzler..Just got to find it..

A3 fine..

Just noticed.. No CEL light... :cry:

Unless the bulb has blown, the supply to the ECM is fuse A5 (10A). Which in turn is supplied via D8 (30A)

Have you noticed anything else out electrically?

I've just re-read your post above. It sounds as though by dropping the screw behind the A fusebox, it has caused a short which has blown one (or a few!) of the larger rated fuses in the D fusebox that supplies the A fusebox. That would explain the large flash you experienced.

The diagram below will help determine which ones have blown.

Found the problem...

D7 had blown.... :wink:

OK............ It was D8... But i had to change it with something...

Those Maxi Fuses are fun..(They're quite big to)

Taking the ashtray holder out is a good laugh as well.. :shock:

is the car running ok again now?

It would be useful to see a write up and some pics about how to access the D fusebox. Its not one I've had cause to access, but you never know for the future.

Good luck finding the rattle, now that your search has resumed.

Theres one thing I've learned from your episode.....if I get a rattle noise I'm going to turn the sounds up louder :lol:

And it's some what embarrassing... :shock:

It's not the dash... It's the bloomin rear view mirror... :oops:

Took some photos Paul of the Maxi fuse box..

Oh andI haven't tested the car fully , I have no fans until I get my new 30Amp Maxi fuse... but she runs and drives...

Well done Dave! Those pics are very useful. And its great to know that to find Fusebox D you have to remove the ashtray and frame!

Thats one hell of a place to hide a fusebox!

We have a rattle coming from the dash its driving Andy crackers. We wouldn't be so fussy but it was so quiet before we had the MOT and the dash lights fixed.When your sat on the passenger seat it sounds like its coming from the far right. When your driving it sounds like its coming from the dimmer area.
We can't work out if its something tapping or plastic binding. It seems to come and go with the different road surfaces. But mainly at 30 mph. Andy's tried taking the top off the dash and checked to see if any connectors where bashing against the inside of the dash. We have grabbed and pulled
and pushed every part of the outside to try and find the area its coming from. Andy's checked from under the steering wheel as far as he can reach his arm up. He said he could feel from the back of the radio to the speedo back but there doesn't seem to be anything making the type of tapping sound. Please help and put Andy out of his misery. I'm OK I've got the boogie box. Max&Andy
