I fitted Lockwoods to my Mk2 & 3 Cavs. The Mk2 was fine, but the Mk3 (which is similar to our Elans) was a right pain. The dash came out & apart quite easy, but the tacho needle was so stubborn that it broke when I removed it. I think the tensioning spring got damaged because it was never accurate again. (The rev limiter cut in when the tacho read about 5k rpm, instead of the 6500 it should have.
re-calibrating the speedo took time, but was not difficult.
The temp & fuel gauges were 'flat-spotted' so went back easily.

The dials looked great...for about 3 years until they started to go cream. When I sold it, you could easily see where the gauges parked themselves.

I would rather leave my stock dials in place.

Having said that, I think the Elan's tacho is too small.
