At the Factory on Thursday - Q&A Session

Postby Sy V » Tue 19.02.2008, 13:36

If anyone has any questions for Lotus, I'm visiting Hethel this week and will try to collar the appropriate people whilst there...

It would be good to get an idea of Lotus/MJK current thinking on parts support for the M100.

The apparent step-in of Lotus with the SS Wishbones, and lack of key parts gives conflicting messages as to where they are heading... i.e. are they not bothered and therefore we can take it upon ourselves to source obsolete parts, or will they let us do the hard work then step in to slap their mark-up on it, as it appears may be the intention with the wishbones.

I would love to know how they made the body panels for the M200 (I'm particularly thinking dimensions for the chin spoiler and tail), and if moulds were involved - have they survived?
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

I'm not at liberty to comment at the moment Dave.

I'll update you all with what was discussed later (when I can).

A post seals - Lotus have an M100 in their New aftersales and parts warehouse.
They have trialed 7 different designs of A-post seals since they sold the last pair. None of which (including the latest) are good enough. The problem lies with the exterior coating which is still too fragile and would rip after a couple of window up/down operations (especially if the seals are wet). WIP.

ALDL protocol is apparently in EML manual (part No D100T0027J). Neil Lovelock says that if you e-mail him, Geoff he can knock one out for you at less than 50% of RRP of £42.80 (incl VAT).

Neil Lovelock wants to help and I believe him. He has sourced out a number of larger projects. To continue supply.
Lotus have rear wishbones in stock (6 pairs) - galvanised and bushed @ £447 (incl VAT) each.
They also have 28 pairs of galvanised not bushed RWBs.

Escutcheons and dashboard grommets are dead and beyond economical plausibility to re-engineer.

Front FCA and rear Dampers can be sourced from Miles Wilkins (Fibre Glass Services) - 01243-554422.
Lotus will sell front dampers with springs, assembled, if we show enough interest. They were made by Munro but are now done by Bilstein apparently.

Brake proportioning valves are in stock 2 units replace the original single unit - £9394 (Incl VAT).

Not specifically Brian, no.
But they had a press day yesterday where they had a 1.5 litre Opel (Astra) turbo diesel with a hybrid giving out shed loads torque BHP and very low emissions.
They've also made a green Elise that runs on bio-fuel, has bamboo seats and a chassis made from recycled coke cans. You think I'm taking the piss here, don't you? Well I'm not!

Will be up and running by August when the new Aftersales List is due out too.
The new warehouse (in the old Factory C building is looking pretty good. We spent a couple of hours drooling over parts in there and the last few shipments of parts returned from Bristol are in - awaiting cataloguing and storing.
