Ok, so I've got carried away now and taken out my fascia. The whole lot is off and on the bench and I want to replace everything.....
The stumbling block I'm most worried about at the moment is VSS/Speedo. Which speedo did LGM put in?
If anyone needs pics or wiring tips, I've got it all apart so can assist!

Don`t fancy doing the whole facia but wouldn`t mine doing something similar to what LGM has done to the the main cluster when i`ve got some dosh. So photo`s and a bit off a right up would be appreciated.

I think LGM has the VDO cockpit speedo. This, although relatively easy to install on its own, doesn't address the lack of VSS signal. Anyone got any ideas?
Edit: Looking at it, the VSS seems to be an optical sensor detecting a wheel attached to the end of the speedo shaft. The wheel has several reflective portions. It would give (guessing) 5 pulses/rev of the speedo drive which would be easy enough to run the VDO Speedos such as LGMs from. The trouble is, you'd have to butcher the existing speedo to use the drive/wheel combo.

The Vss isn't an issue. All you need to do is get a VDO GM Speed sender and attach it to the gear structure that goes into the tranny. Run the wires to the new speedo and tap the VSS wire that goes to the ECU into it. Done. I have a write up of the parts on the Gauges thread.

Scary isn't it. I also have all of the wire color codes written down for easy identification. Apparently I'm going to be doing another gauge cluster soon. Maybe I can get someone to take some pics and I'll do a write up.

Although the wiring/plumbing is quite simple, it is still a little intimidating owing to having to match all the curves etc. I'm planning on a plywood structure behind an aluminium panel. New AutoMeter gauges, an LCD and replacement switches. The aim is for it to look nice and simple with no blanks, clocks, nooks or crannies and certainly no visible fag* lighter!

Ahh memories of when I did redid my dash in suede and eliminated the blanking plates. Good times good times. Have fun with this one and I can't wait to see what you come up with for a final design.

Well, I've ordered loads of bits and I've made this template, not to reflect the shape/design of the new dash, but to prototype layout etc.
Once again though, that attentive collie is all over it:
I've done loads of work with the wiring and modified the heater controls to go side by side. One of my main aims is to simplify, not only for aesthetics but to make my fabrication easier. Therefore, things like the 'pull-for-on' interior lights (battery flattener) are going to be scrapped as is the washer-bottle contents warning. The dimmer and clock are already in the bin! I'm definitely adding a lights-on warning beeper though.
So far, I've settled on a thick plywood structure supporting a mixture of black and brushed aluminium panels. I'm re-using the Lotus loom for obvious reasons but with many terminated ends. If anyone has any good thoughts or gotchas, please share them now as I'll be hacking apart soon!

After hijacking so many other people's posts now I know what it feels like!
I don't mind if you want to keep posting here........maybe I'll steal some ideas
The car's going in to the shop in two weeks. I'm going to have that clunky 3rd brake light integrated into the rear spoiler at the same time.
I've decided to change the stereo concept a bit. After much debate and anguish, I'm goin to pull the Alpine 9965 (a FANTASTIC head unit that they just stopped making) and replace it with a double din LCD based version - either the new Kenwood DNX-8120 ( see video )or the Alpine W505. Depends on which comes out first. This will save a full din space on the fascia which i will use to help fit the redesigned heater controls, some switches and 2 cupholders.
More as we get closer.
