If its doable then yes I'll do it.

:o

I absolutely disagree about it not being practical.

After the job that you did on your opera glass headlights, you would have no trouble with the rear indicator lenses.
And they really do complete the look.

All you have to do is to remove the unit, unclip the perspex outer (about 10 spring clips), cut through the little retaining lugs that hold the orange lens in place and glue the clear ones in place. Then reassemble.

It's a couple of hours job at most, including a good spruce-up of the assembly. :D

Cool, that sounds easy enough. I've had a look at the earlier pages and on my silver car the rear clear ones will look fabulous. I've already dismantled the rear lights to clean them up as there was a cure for cancer and various other ailments growing in one of them.

What glue is best to use?

Anyway, here are the sidelights before and after. My thanks to Richard (Wolfie308) at Protocast for these. They really are top notch quality and arrived a day after ordering.

Ditto here. Got mine last month. Much higher-quality than the "clears" I got for my Capri XR2. They should be required on white Elans.

What's a Capri XR2

The XR2 in the UK was a Fiesta

Looks like the back end of a MK1 Toyota MR2

I don't have any pics with the new wheels on, but this is with the 'clears'.

Finally got round to fitting some of those Elan bits and pieces ive been collecting lately,Wolfie 308 clear front lenses with BL mini clear indicators took all of 10 minutes to fit and even im suprised what a subtle difference they make to the front end of the car and as said before by others a really nice quality made part.
On the other hand fitting new osram H1 +90% dipped headlight bulbs took me (large hands little patience ) nearly 2 hours with grazes and cuts up to my elbows but worth it though as big difference, just hope they last a while for my knuckles sake :-)

Hallo everybody peeps,

Just thought some folks might be interested in a smoked version of my now famous indicators.

In the past, I've tried tinting without success- the black dyes I've used have come out more sepia than smoked :(

Whilst working on another project, I thought I'd try a tint spray on the inner surface NOT the outside. This gives the benefit of preserving the high gloss outer surface, which can be polished repeatedly and the coating can't be damaged through abrasion or 'road rash'

I've put this 1st pair on eBay, but I don't think the pic does them justice, maybe they look better here.....

Further pairs are available to LEC members at the same price as the clears :D

Richard, why not bring along a few sets to Donington next month?
I'm sure there will be plenty of interest.

Hiya Neil,

Funnily enough I was intending to do just that...missed out last year but was there in '06.

I'll probably have a bunch of fronts, but the rears are much trickier to cast so I only make them to order.

Paul.P...absolutely - silver bulbs do finish the look off a treat. I use Philips SilverVision, but the Osram Diadem might look good on a blue or silver car.....or maybe a bit too MaxPower?

Smoked rears....never thought of that, but it would be no problem. I'm already doing part tint rears to match the rest of the body of the lens as on this MR2.....

The indicator lenses are common with the ones on some similar aged Esprits aren't they?

I wonder - if any were displayed on our stand, does anyone else think we may get a few LEF interlopers trying to buy 'em! :poke:

Bearing that in mind, if anyone is interested in purchasing any (and I can highly recommend them), it might be worth registering your interest here first. Then Richard can have an idea of how many to bring and fewer people are likely to be disappointed.

The fronts are indeed the same as the Esprit. You might be interested to know that my Esprit resellers sell them for £70/pair the same as my website price, so you can see my offer of £52.50 to LEC members is a bit of a bargain. Remember also, that's cheaper than a pair of original dated half amber ones

I would be pleased to make a few pairs available for the LEC stand - who should I contact about that?

I'd hope to bring half a dozen pairs with me as well, so I guess that would cover it? I'll also bring at least one pair of smoked as well, so folks can see what they look like in the flesh.

Martin,

I'll be manning the stand for the first hour. See this thread:

http://www.lotuselancentral.com/forum/v ... 2&start=65

I will be happy to take some contact details from you so that you aren't restricted in your movements (while still getting sales), and can bring in a standard lens for yours to be displayed against.

It might also be advantageous to turn up at Donington Services between 8.30 and 9.30am as you'll have a captive audience before the convoy sets off. You'll probably want to get out of there before we all get moving though!
