hi gazza could you advise me please i drove lotus home m951ojb and developed a problem changing gears had a lot of trouble engaging them the guy i bought the car of said it could be the hydraulic clutch needs bleeding or something is this right or is it something more serius he said to get it sorted and he will pay for it would appreciate any advice asap as im quite worried about this thanks mark.

They haven't got hydraulic clutches.

It could be that the clutch cable needs some adjustment or the gear selector cables need adjustment.

you can try esprit cars (he specializes in lotus....as he used to work for chris neils).....

Yes. I've just started using Kevin for looking after my Elan and would recommend him as well.

Check the gear change cables on the bracket attached to the rear of the engine to see if both plastic locking connections are intact.
When I first bought my Elan, the gear change was VERY poor, but I put that down to wear in cables/selectors etc.
In fact, the fore/aft selector cable was secured to the bracket with zip ties as the locking nut had sheared off.
Replaced both cables with AB's and fitted Dave's short shift kit.
This was the best modification I have come across for the Elan, as the difference in gear changing is remarkable!
