Cheap Lidl Helmet for Track Days

Postby dans » Mon 17.03.2008, 14:34

Just seen this:
http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages ... Helmet.ar6

Helemt for 34.99. Bargain.

I am just looking for something to wear on occasional track days. Would this be worth it for occasional use.
Or is it a case of getting what you pay for and I'd be better off with a paper bag on my head?????

Dan,

I haven't seen the actual item (not in the store when i went in Saturday), but the advert says that it complies with the current MSA/FIA regs so it should be okay.

Three things of note - it is only advertised as availlable in sizes S & M (no good for me  ), I don't like the colour (may be options on the day?), cheap crash hats are usually heavier / less comfortable than dear ones.

That said, I will be going down to see if i can jam my swede into one, as my current hat (okay for track days, but the regs have updated and made it useless for FIA events  ) is now "too old".

Failing that, cheap full or open face helmets are usually availlable from Demon Tweeks which are FIA compliant (Not what you need for a track day use, though - Stick to Lidls!!!!)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

They never seem to check your helmets ( ) at trackdays but you do require i full face helmet for open top cars

At Goodwood all the instructors wear open face helmets. I guess you couldn't hear them shouting at you otherwise.

Those helmets do look good value, think i'll get one for Dee.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?
