Most of the OE ones I've come across are actually plated plastic - well a certain Japanese OE's are Maybe we could get the levers done this way?
Won't work on the handles tho'

Ekapol, there is an oval cut out in the pic Brian posted. I recall he once posted another pic with a vertical slot in it. The handle could also have a cut out if desired I suppose. At some point we might want to seek out opinions on what kind of slot(s), or not, should be in the design.

Done a bit more on this whilst waiting for some parts to reverse-engineer, they're by no means definitive, just putting them out there for critique
The doorpull I think's not bad, the release lever cut-out was an afterthought and needs reworking...

whlst I rerally like the new look I think keeping it stock will probably be the way to go

I like the idea of a "stock" door handle. Its so small that any detailing might get lost anyway. I could go with a "stock" looking doo pull or a simple vertical slot (or similar). The look of aluminum in the car (and the CF escutcheons) will look really nice.

There's no reason why the escutcheon / door pull couldn't be a 1-piece cover - perhaps this would boost interest in the 'Carbon fibre escutcheon' project? Potentially more bang for your buck too?...

I'll offer up an aopinion on the other side then. Can't say I like the idea of that much CF and I don't think I'd like the look (that's just me of course). Yes, a one piece part is an interesting idea if it could be done. Someone would have to have a real good look at it though as I didn't think the pieces were that close together.

But, since we're throwing out idea, how would an all aluminum, one-piece pull/escutcheon look? Could you paint the aluminum with something durable to get a custom color?

Anodizing. I know little about the process other than it is a sort of sort of metal dyeing process. Maybe someone on here knows a bit more about it?

I like the aluminium. The Elan's interior is drab & monotone, and would be greatly enhanced with some real brightwork (solid shiny metal).

Audi "styled" the TT's interior using that approach.
