nearside constant velocity joint gaiter split . MOT failuire

Hi again- another problem

Can some one please tell what this is ??? " nearside front constant velocity joint gaiter split " this is what it says on the MOT certificate . The machanic said there is a split in the front offside / drivers side CV joint. he said i need to get the replacement part for that. Now!! i dont have a clue about this ??? . Any suggestions and is there a part number for this?? . Where can i get a new cv joint if this is split please . Can i also use non lotus parts at General motors .

If thats what it`s failed on then you do not need to change the CV joint, just the rubber gaiter and repack with grease. You should be able to get a universal one gaiter from your local motor factors and you just cut down to size.

It's a common MOT failure for FWD cars. The rubber gaiter is there to stop the joint drying out or getting dirty & wearing (which is exactly what will happen if you leave it too long).
Proper part is probably GM & will most likely involve removing the wheel& hub.
Like Monty suggests, a Universal one is probably the easiest fix.
