Samco Silicone

Postby algirdas » Tue 27.05.2008, 22:02

Dear All:

Not the best news. Samco is still having problems making the silly little hose we need. They have told James at Amber Performance that they will keep working on it on a "time available" basis.

Bottom line-Buy the Samco Fed set and get all the hoses you need except that silly little one which will have to stay rubber for now. That is what I have done. Works for me.

I also have a name of a US silicone hose manufacturer. I may send my spare one off to them for an evaluation.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Keep in mind what you'll get if you order the missing Fed hose from Dave Bean. Not blaming them, as it's all that's available. However, if you ever owned a Triumph or MG you'll recognize a NOS part when you see it.

Nothing that an application of elbow grease, rubber cleaner and armor all can't fix! Oh, and you seem to have received Dave Bean's last one. The hose is on back-order now! :banghead:

That will restore supple pliancy to the hardened rubber? Wow!

Isn't there some kind of rubber conditioner out there for such a need? Seem to recall hearing about such a product some time ago..................

Fed pipe differences

Postby tigerdog » Mon 23.06.2008, 19:11

algirdas wrote:Samco ... can't seem to get the tooling right for those two tight 90 bends according to James. He added that Samco is going to give it one last (according to James, sixth and last) try.

Apparently they still haven't reproduced this; my Fed kit came without one. Also, was surprised to see the hose from radiator to water pumps and expansioni tank is all one long piece. On my car, the branch from the rad to the electric pump is in two pieces with a metal pipe joining the two. Is mine the oddball?

Samco Silicone

Dear Tigerdog:

No, yours is not an oddball. This was done on purpose to cut down on one more union and potential area for leakage.

Just so you know, that big ugly hose is called the "big ugly hose".

Brilliant! And helpful, too, as the metal union pipe has been scraped over one too many speed bumps.

Fed Owners Need Coupler

Postby tigerdog » Tue 01.07.2008, 23:39

Fed hoses I received require a 5/8-3/4 coupler on the pipe from the electric pump to the "Y" near the heater valve. On my car, the original was 5/8 straight and so could not be re-used. This is the same coupler required by the S2 folks as noted in the original thread. You can order a fancy alloy one from Amber. If you forget (guess who didn't realize it was needed  ), call your local NAPA and ask for part number "BK 6601532". It's steel 5/8" to 3/4" (not alloy 16mm to 19mm) but does the trick and should be available anywhere in N America for about $10.
