Gear lever/shifter at neutral position, leaned to RIGHT side

My mechanic was trying to install the short shifter kit to my S2, after installation the Gear lever/shifter at neutral position, is leaned to RIGHT side.

Immediately, he changed back, and the Gear lever/shifter at neutral position, is STILL leaned to RIGHT side.

What happened here?

Please advise.

Not just that the gear cable adjusters have moved ?

When I installed AB cables, a similar thing happened. The bracket that came with the new cables, along with the adjustment system they had, moved the cable to a point where the cross-gate cable (side-side) couldn't be adjusted to get the shift lever in the right place. I took the bracket to a local machine shop and had it modified.

The short-shift kit you installed would move the attachment point at the gearbox end, thereby also moving the cable and lever. The first thing to do is try to adjust the cable to get the shift lever where you want it. Beyond that, you may have to modify something, like the bracket. I have no experience with short-shift kits, so this is only guessing.

Basically, the gear cable seems to be LONGER than before. This is my observation.

Smaug wears Dave's short-shift and AB cables. When I bought him, the shifter was canted very far to the right. I was able to reposition it to a normal vertical orientation, but only by moving the side-to-side cable near the limit of its adjustment. You can see this in the photo below; it's the left cable, with almost no threads showing on the cable adjuster.

I may post a pic later. I don't have the short shift kit, but had a similar problem. (until I post a pic) Imagine that same part of the bracket being in-line with the part holding the other cable. That's how I had my AB bracket modified to allow plenty of adjustment in the cross-gate cable so I could get the shifter where I wanted it.

Ah. Don't know much about that one.

Since you have tried removing it and still have the right-tilt, it sounds like you may have adjusted (or bent/broken) something during fitting.

That definately shouldn't happen, Dave fitted his kit to my car about two weeks ago ( I basically just held the shifter and made encouraging noises)
and the position of the gear stick in neutral did not noticably change from before fitting to after.

I still have the original SE cables fitted - I'm waiting for them to break before I fit my ABs. But I strongly advise you to speak to Dave directly.

Given I am so happy with the shifting now, I doubt if it is the actual kit either. It took Dave 30 mins to fit and apart from a gental tap to release the cross gate pin there was never any force applied to bend anything.
