silverstone is a great "old " circuit.
i think thats what gives it a certain charm. but on a rainy day the walk around the track is a mud bath.
for many years the roads leading to it were terrible.
the campsites were dire.

that being said it was/is the british grandprix.

when the bar of grand prix racing circuits is being raised at every move the silverstone apperars scruffy.

im not saying that everything i see must be fake and highly polished as many of the circuits are these days.

But the main issue i can see is that the brdc cannot afford it.
the British grand prix is a loss making event.
Unlike other countries that are falling over themselves to be publicly "one of the few" whos governments pile millions into hosting a grand prix our government has done very little to help. infact more so the opposite they have sucked every last penny out of the event. The brdc jumped through many hoops to get where they are today but finances has got the better of most sport.

as with most sports someone else will pick it up and fortunately Donington park consortium (not brdc co-op) with deeper pockets have picked it up .
sadly the biker track known as Donington park will be undergoing some major changes. I would imagine that all that has been bought is the "name" and the land. everything else will change....

shame that most of the british constuctors are based around siverstone/brackley.

Donington is certainly not just a bikers track, but obviously the circuit will have to be extended for the GP and bigger run offs, I bet after 2010 that there trackday prices will go up

I`ve not been to Silverstone (one day i`ll track it) but one good thing about the move to Donny is that at least the GP will be more central for us Northerners to travel too :-D

Ohhh BTW it`s looking nice slippery for the race today :-D

Contracts have been signed so it won`t be going back to silverstone :?

Have to agree what a great race and Hammy was superb but there was other great drives, Heidfeld & good old Rubens and even though Alonso had a good race.

If some of the teams went to full wets like Rubens did then the out come would be completely different.

Like they said, Lewis was lapping around 6 seconds faster than everyone else that had the same tyres, & that was awesome !

got to watch all the pracice and quali in the dry from all round the track and then had seats at copse for the race. nothing prepares you for the speed, the noise and the way the change direction. that rocked.

Oliver's obviously not got back yet..

I`m here now !

I really enjoyed Silverstone, and the golf club camp site we stayed at was excellent, and the Elan got lots of nice remarks from other campers.

It was fantastic to see Bruno Senna win the second GP2 race. I hope Flavio signs him for next year.

I have to admit, Lewis did good. BUT, he was helped enormously by all his opponents pressing the self destruct button, paticularly Massa who is now known as Dougal (The Magic Roundabout). If Ferrari hadn`t cocked up Raikkonen`s pit stops, Lewis would have been under severe pressure. Also, my man was fastest of all for the first few laps, and awesome to watch. I wish Renault would hurry up and give him a good car. I reckon 2009 regs will put Renault right back at the front, Aero is their current weakness, next year much less aero, more mechanical grip. I can`t wait to get to Spa. Too many Hamilton fans at Silverstone for my comfort.

Oliver,
So whats the main regs that will change for 2009?
it will be good to see Renault up with the big boys and maybe with a couple more teams to make an interesting 2009 :-D

Hi Monty,

From 2009,

All the ugly aero rubbish is banned.
Slicks are back.

More mechanical grip and less downforce = more overtaking.

They should make the season the opposite 6 months of the year or have random hazards like ball-bearings or oil dotted around the track.
It was hilarious to see so many rotating professionals at the weekend.
More BBC, more!

Stolen from another forum I sometimes visit - apologies to DaveT

SILVERSTONE NEWS

We've just enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the British Grand Prix, are now dry again, and can impart the following inside information.

After the screw up over tires, the Ferrari F1 team fired their entire pit crew yesterday. This followed Ferrari's decision to take advantage of the British government's 'Work for your Dole' scheme and employ some Liverpudlian youngsters.

The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Toxteth were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment whereas Ferrari's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of pounds worth of high tech equipment.

It was thought to be an excellent, bold move by the Ferrari management team as most races are won and lost in the pits, giving Ferrari an advantage over every
other team.

However, Ferrari got more than they bargained for! At the crew's first practice session, not only was the scouse pit crew able to change all four wheels in under 6 seconds but, within 12 seconds, they had re-sprayed, re-badged and sold the car to the Mclaren team for 8 cases of Stella, a bag of weed and some photos of Alonso's bird in the shower.
