38 lbs each (17+ Kgms) according to the "seat Warmer" upgrade write-up. Having recently taken one out I can believe it as well !!

I weighted them at when fitting bucket seats

Stock seat with runners 38lb (17.23kg)

The weight of a bucket :-D

Stock seat with runners 38lb (17.23kg)
Cobra seat with adapted runners 35lb (15.87kg)
The adapted runners weighed in at 14lb (6.35kg)

That makes the Cobra seat 21lb (9.52kg)

does anybody have pics of the insides of a seat? id like to see if any of it can be replaced with lighter components. yes it sounds crazy but i actually like the look of the original seats. i dont mind finding a thrashed seat and seeing if bits can be replaced with aluminium and cf.

Are the seats part of the passive safety concept in case of laying on the back? Or is there any other reason for it?

This is really much... the seats of the elise/vx weigh 10kg sth. incl the runners... so if there is a rollbar needed regarding the protection concept, the bar must weigh less than 14kg...

but of course... the seats belong to the first sight/appearance of the car... it isn´t easy to substitute them without changing the shape of the Elan

When lifting them, most of the weight was on the bottom bit of the seat if I recall correctly.
