i bought i rickbrook gear knob today, fitted it (with no modifications in a couple of mins) and its dropped the height of the gear knob to just where i want it, with the added bonus that the origional gearknob can be replaced at any time. £30 seems like a bargin now i dont have to modify my lever. will add a pic if anyones interested.

much nicer feel, all i need now is a set of AB cables and someone to fit my shortshift kit....

I put the same one in my car that you'll see nitroman posted pics of in this thread. It had the same effect. It's a knob that slips down on the shift lever (not threaded), and then is fastened with allen screws. The hole in it is deep enough that it lowered the knob at least an inch, to where I wanted it.

Ultimately, I took it back off, replacing it with a black leather w/red stitching knob that mounts in the same fashion. This was, like nitroman said, because the chrome one got very hot in the sun, and very cold in the winter.
