I was too late to get my order in for the current supply.
Looks like I did not miss out on anything then.

I also mailed Jerry to inform him that demand currently exceeds supply.

We have all received the same email - buy it from Cybox on eBay - but with inadequate stock available.
Hope I'm not treading on anyones toes - I have emailed Jerry to try to re-establish the LEC discount and to secure supply direct from Peco.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the email – its good to hear that Peco (-GAT) are back in business.
Unfortunately, Cybox had only 3 systems available and sold out by the time I was able to log onto eBay.

Lotus Elan Central is the internet forum for owners and enthusiasts of the Lotus Elan M100 model. We have over 2400 members and the Forum is the recognised source for information, accumulated knowledge and advice for the M100 model.

We have had a long term relationship with Peco as the recognised supplier of stainless steel exhaust systems and fitting service for our members.
That arrangement was mutually beneficial providing both a secure source for a specifically designed quality exhaust system and through recommendation on our Forum a steady stream of enquiries and sales from our membership.

Are you able to continue this arrangement and if so provide a discount for our Membership?

We have an immediate requirement for 10 exhaust systems.
What is the anticipated production lead time and soonest availability?

Regards,

I will post any response received.

Hello

Further to being contacted by John (Freelander) we have looked into developing and making these systems with a view to supply these to this Forum in the absense of Peco.

We cannot see any problem with making these systems for for you but would need to see a car here in our workshop for a couple of hours to do some costings so we can work out if we can make these for the target price of £295.00

I understand that Peco may be back on track after their summer holiday and we may not be required but should Peco no longer be able to supply these parts to you we are happy to pick up this development.

I think I can speak on behalf of the membership and thank you for your interest in this matter.
I'm assuming any South East-based member who offers his car up would be doing so on a no-obligation arrangement.

Yes thats correct. Just take a nice drive down to sunny Folkestone (We can see France from our office), we make you a cup of tea and slice of cake (if the Staff have not eaten it all), put your car on the ramps and have a good nose round to see whats involved with making the exhaust and then we can go away and do some costings to see if we can help. We are aware that price is an issue so will do all we can to keep within the budget already set. Once we have poked around the car and taked the details we need your member is free to go :)

If the job is a go ahead and Peco cannot supply any longer then we would need to arrange for a car to come back to the workshop for the development to be carried out (approx 1 week). If the demand is as it looks to be and 10+ systems are needed to begine with then the car we use for development will be given an exhaust free of charge. (i will let you all fight amung yourselves as to who this will be or you could do a ballot.)

I hope this is all okay and am just happy to help.

Garry,

Peco currently only offer a 2.25" exhaust, when you gat a car in it may be worth investigating a 2.5" system, also there may be a market for a sportcat system as we S2 owners and our federal cousins have stricter emmission targets to meet.

BTW one of the big selling points for peco was their exhausts are mandrel bent, I presume you use the same technique to avoid any kinks/narrowings?

Also a fairer and less divisive approach might be to offer a 10% discount for the initial batch of ten, thereby spreading the "free" exhaust amongst those willing to put their money in.

Okay we can look at a 2.5" system if demand is high enough no problem and we can also develop a sports cat as we have these redily avaliable. We could develop it in a way where their are 2 systems, one with a cat and one without. Nice and simple.

We could do that of course. Whatever the Admin feel is fair we are happy to go along with. The offer was thought of as a kind of thanks for letting us borrow your car but we are happy to deal with it whichever way is felt fairest.

Yes all our exhaust systems are mandrel bent on fully CNC equipment. We have CNC welders for the silencers and everything is made in house. Please see some examples of our work below which i hope will inspire you. Please note that if Peco come back on track and want to continue to supply the forum then we shall not progress with this development, i can see they have put alot of time and effort into this and would not want to interfere with that. We have strong morals and respect our fellow exhaust companies.

I consider that to be a good result - from the photos, we have an alternative supplier (subject to cost) but with an option of ceramic coating.

Who's going to volunteer to lend them a car for the day? - I'll exclude myself as it would be a 600 mile round trip.

Gerry,

Thanks for that.

Just FYI, PECO do not and have no intention of supplying 2.5" (because they don't have the gear) or sportcat (because it won't fit in their existing design, they would have to re-design the rear sections). Doing either should not tread on Peco's toes. Meanwhile people who want 2.5" or sportcats are having to go elsewhere to get them custom made.

If you could come up with a 2.5" with optional sportcat that would be ideal.

I have started a new thread here for anyone to register their interest in a 2.5" system.

Ailwyn

PS The N/A Elan has a different exhaust setup for some reason (so Peco don't supply these either) so again this might be something worth investigating if it's possible to accomodate in a one-size fits all upgrade.

Okay, if you feel enough demand and Peco do not want to or cannot then we shall help with that. Also if thier is enough demand for NA systems then again we could look into this also.

I will be honest and say i know next to nothing about the Elan, would someone mind listing the different models with regards to exhaust systems etc. So far i can see 3 but if some one could elaborate that would be great, the more information at the start the better the final product. For example if Peco had known their was requirment for a cat, they could have taken this into account when doing the inital design.

1 - Turbo charged model - without a cat
2 - Turbo charged model - with a cat
3 - Non turbo model

I think that covers it, I don't think there is any difference between LHD/RHD etc, worth noting that the only difference between the SE and Fed/S2 is the Cat, all of the routing is the same, peco just put a joint or a bend in close to the location of the Cat and therefore there wasn't enough clearance, hence needing to re-design the rear sections. A lot of us S2 owners are running with Pecos and relying on the pre-cat in the downpipe to pass emissions (probably a worse blockage than the main cat replaced by the peco).

I don't know what the specific issue between the N/A exhaust and the SE/S2 is, so not in a position to comment on how similar or different they are.

I just drove the car back after having the new peco exhaust fitted.
It seems to have improved the performance and the sound.
Well worth the money.
