Piper (FM) was the first company I ever worked for (as a trainee designer in the mid '70s) - great company, many happy memories :D
Hope they can put a deal together for LEC

F1LOTUS - That was a while ago now, bet most of our staff are still here :)

It looks as though interest is rising now so we had best get a couple of cars in here soon. Who is local and can pop in for an hour so initial costings can be carried out and development started.
Kind Regards

I don't think anyone is very local on that list.
I think I may be the nearest (Milton Keynes). If it will benefit those on the forum, I don't mind a day out in the Elan :D Would a Saturday morning be OK?

If I get my clutch done next week (which IS the plan) I have business to do in Folkestone, and will happily let them look all over mine.

If it helps.

Good morning all.

Sadly we are not open on Saturdays, only Monday to Friday, 8:00 - 5:30.

If your in the area on business then just give us a bit of notice to push the racers off the ramps and make space for your car. Should only take 30 -60 minutes to get all the details we need.
Kind Regards

Not sure if Ailwyn already mentioned this, but another plus about the Peco is the flexible front section. The stock one has very little flex and mine used to occasionally rattle against the gearbox/sump.

Please could you look at incorporating this into the design.

RIP - Yes thats not a problem. If it needs a flexi section incorparated into the design then it will get one.

From the pics you posted in the other thread, our system would look most like the Corsa one. The front flange, flexi section and bends are in very similar positions, and even the pipe shape is about the same (but I think most would prefer a bigger silencer than the one shown).
On the whole though, good looking system - I think it will be very popular.
And if people take the recommendation from LEC then they SHOULD already be aware that they may need to port their wastegate if they get boost-creep issues, and that that is not a fault of the exhaust.

Just posted that last point so that you are aware of it being a known problem. In the early days many main dealers fitted big exhausts to Elans only to have to take them off again because the fuel injection system was being cut when the turbo overboosted (thanks to the improved airflow exceeding the stock design limits). It got to a point where main dealers wouldn't touch anything non-standard. Nowadays we are much more educated and know what to do to overcome the problem, but it may not be common knowledge outside LEC.

Thanks fot the heads up. :) Good info.

If it looks similar then we may be in with a shout as that system has an RRP of £320.00 inc vat but is a smaller bore (2") so the 2.25" and 2.5" will add to the cost, but based around a group buy or Forum special we may be able to still help.

Still looking for cars to look at :)

Oh I'm not contradicting the 2 1/4 & 2 1/2" options! I have a 2 1/4 and the improved breathing is very noticeable over standard, although I recall reading somewhere that the gains rapidly tail off above that size.

Hi
If no objections.
Tomorrow is meant to be a nice day and I have the day off so I have arranged with Gary at Piper to take my S2 down for them to have a look/measure up of the exhaust.

Just to confirm, the initial contact with Piper did include the photos of the previous Peco system (including the flexi, general arrangement and oval tail pipe).

Unfortunately, still no response from new Peco and still no availability via Cybox. As anticipated, we probably don't rate high enough to get their immediate attention.

Hello

Firstly a big thank you to Bill (Breed) for lending us his car. He popped in to see the sea and have a drink with us while we had a look at his car to see what we could do for you :)

We have already done some initial costings and thankfully i think we can help. Bill made the comment that some people thought the Peco 2.25" option was a bit too loud, and without the option of having a cat fitted made it not suitable for most members. So as we were starting with a clean slate, we thought we would try and combat all these problems in one simple system with a selection of options. We looked at the option of putting an extra silencer in under the car but felt that their was not enough ground clearance to do so, we then looked a little further up the system to where the standard cat was positioned and feel that we could put an extra silencer in this place thus helping to keep the noise of the exhaust down. This then gave us 3 options as far as front sections go:

1 - Cat in front pipe
2 - Silencer in front pipe
3 - Nothing in front pipe (as per Peco)

Add to this the 2 different bore sizes, 2.25" and 2.5" and you have 6 options to choose from. Again, it sounds like alot but as far as manufacturing this goes its fairly simple for us which keeps the cost down. Below are our expected prices for these options. Please note that this is just for the Turbo models at the moment.

2.5"
PIPEXH1 - 2.5" system - suit Turbo - With Sports cat in front
PIPEXH2 - 2.5" system - suit Turbo - Without Sports cat or silencer in front (as Peco)
PIPEXH7 - 2.5" system - suit Turbo - With silencer in front
2.25"
PIPEXH3 - 2.25" system - suit turbo - With Sports cat in front
PIPEXH4 - 2.25" system - suit Turbo - Without Sports cat or silencer in front (as Peco)
PIPEXH8 - 2.25" system - suit Turbo - With silencer in front

Prices.
PIPEXH1 - LEC Special price - £470.00
PIPEXH2 - LEC Special price - £352.50
PIPEXH7 - LEC Special price - £387.75
PIPEXH3 - LEC Special price - £411.25
PIPEXH4 - LEC Special price - £293.75
PIPEXH8 - LEC Special price - £329.00

Please note that these prices INCLUDE vat at 17.5% and will be carriage free for all who purchase in the initial batch, saving £15.00

Again thanks to Freelander for inviting us to quote on this work and to Bill (Breed) for lending us his car to do the costings.

I hope this is all okay and look forward to hearing from you soon.

EDIT: Forgot to say that we would propose to use our stock 5"x3" Oval tailpipe as pictured below:

First impression is that looks pretty (in fact VERY) competitive.
I particularly like the idea of the silencer in place of the cat, and having a 2.5" option is good too.
I'm already sorted, but I hope initial trials prove as popular.

Garry,
Thanks for the very fast turn around on the costings and again the prices are certainly competitive.

I need an exhaust immediately and will order the PIPEXH4

How do we ensure that LEC Members get the special prices?
What is the manufacturing lead time / anticipated availability?

Thanks again, we appreciate the interest and effort provided by your company in providing such a range of exhaust systems - which should be able to satisfy even the most discerning of M100 owners.

I'm in.
I just have to decide whether or not I want the silencer.
I'm off to read the Peco thread to help me decide.....

Garry, thanks for the effort you have put into this.
How do we order? PM?

Hi

Well the weather was good and had a nice drive out with a Exige for company on the way back. Don't know who they were but nice car.

Anyway found the people at Piper very professional and will be happy to buy from them. Had a look at some of their work and it is very good. I would like to added to the list and will want PIPEXH4. Talking to Gary I think that the system without the the cat or front silencer will be with a "cat bypass pipe" so that in future if you want a cat or silencer you just take out the pipe and the silencer or cat will fit in its place. So should be easier if you change your mind or want to run with a cat for the road and catless for the track. They also believe that they can straighten out some of the bends for better gas flow. If this goes ahead I have agreed to let them have my car for a week or so and for doing this I have asked that they apply a discount to the initial batch and not me get a freebee.
Will the front pipe be different on a SE as it has no precat? Or did the PECO fit both SE & S2 with the same exhaust?

Regards
Bill

Bill, the Peco exhaust started from the triangle flange which is after the pre-cat so i would imagine the Piper will be the same. To replace the pre-cat is a little more complicated.
