Seems there are a whole number of issues under discussion here, I'll add my perspective in the hope that it will help.

First and foremost with a BBR kit (or any other combination of MBC and FCD set to similar levels) you will never, ever, experience boost creep. Ailwyn is correct when he says boost creep is caused by the inability for the wastegate to divert enough exhaust gases away from the turbo to prevent it continuing to speed up and so produce boost up until the point it self destructs. This will continue to happen in an engine with a BBR kit, but because the ECU never sees the actual boost above a certain level as determined by the FCD which limits the electrical signal (voltage)output from the MAP sensor to the ECU the ECU continues to see a signal from the MAP sensor which tells the ECU that boost is at 0.714 bar regardless of what it actually is and because the boost seen by the ECU is less than the fuel cut level the fuel is not cut. The experience of boost creep is the fuel cut and the engine going into limp home mode for a few moments. If you disconnect the FCD and reconnect the MAP sensor as it was originally connected on a BBR car you will, in all probability, experience the fuel cut associated with boost creep.

Chris, a bigger diameter exhaust will not give you the symptoms of boost creep (fuel cut followed by brief limp home mode) because you have a BBR kit fitted. However, back pressure in the exhaust system is a limiting factor on the amount of boost a turbo can produce and a bigger exhaust will reduce that and thus the possibility of you turbo being able to spin itself into oblivion as you have no safeguards on your engine to prevent that other than the little bit of plastic or metal in the now redundant BSV piping that is the BBR boost controller.

Garry

On behalf of the membership, can I just register a big thank you for the time and effort you expended with this offer.
I may have missed it but do you have any idea what the tail end of the exhaust will look like?
Kinda makes me feel like I wish I didn't have a Paul Matty exhaust fitted as the 2.5" system really appeals.

... and you don't envisage any clearance issues over the cross member with the 2.5" system? Even if fitted by Quick Fit monkeys (other exhaust fitters are available).

First impressions look good. We have very good CNC mandrel bending machines that should be able to get the tube bent the way we would like. Until we actually do the job tho it will be very hard to say. I think we shall do a better job that the one shown earlier in the thread (and below) as the clearance on this is not satisfactory to us. That said, we shall have to see once the car is in :)

I would like to order one of these system's.

But I'm worried it won't match up to Maries new downpipe as someone else mentioned.

Marie has made new downpipe to fit origional system.

So will new system fit.

Cheers

But isn't her's just a pre-cat eliminator to mate with the existing system?
Whereas the Piper is an "exhaust eliminator" (!) to mate with the existing pre-cat.
So in theory, the join should be the same.

I agree, Marie's intention as I understand it is to run the downpipe to the existing triangular flange.

As long as the eliminator ends at the start of the system and joins to the standard system using the standard 3 bolt joint then you should not have any problems :)

On another note? Does anyone have a spare gasket lying around we can borrow to draw up to get the flanges lazer cut? The one at the start of the system between the system and pre cat. 3 bolt flange type?

Is their demand for a pre cat eliminator? Can someone load some pictures of this section, we may be able to develop this also while the car is here?

Garry, I have a standard downpipe which has the flange on it lying around - it could be used as a pattern.

As for a pre-cat eliminator - you may well be onto something here.

I've always thought that this was a nice idea, even (in fact especially!) for SE's. The pre-cat splits into an upper and a lower half. The upper half bolts onto the side of the turbo and splits the main exhaust and the wastegate flow, before joining them back together in a pipe shaped like a swan neck. Then it opens out and joins onto the bottom half, which has a big chamber that the pre-cat lives in (if fitted). The problem is that a) it's all very heavy (about 7.5kg), and b) the orifice at the bottom is only 2" diameter, so no matter how big the rest of your exhaust may be, you've always got this restriction just before it.

One of our members - Stevo - tried making something to replace the entire lot out of stainless once before. He called it the "Stiffy" (EVERY pun intended)! It was a nice bit of kit too - about 1/3 the weight of the original and very well made. I tried one but it had a few issues: the bends made it incompatible with any car fitted with aircon (although admittedly that's not many) as it clashed with the A/C compressor, it had no provision for heat-shield mounting (although coating was an option) and the ports at the top were siamesed, which is not recommended.

If I had the tools, what I would do is keep the upper half because the benefits in design outweigh the weight issue, and simply get a trumpet shaped piece with a CNC flange top and bottom to replace the lower half. Then people could simply split their pre-cat in half (I say simply but the bolts rarely give up without a fight!) and bolt the new bit to the bottom which would provide a nice smooth lead-in to their big bore exhaust. I'm sure that you could make this easily.

Now while I have all the bits lurking about in my garage for comparison, I'm up in Nottingham - getting them to you would cost a small fortune and time that I simply don't have. However, with the Hethel meeting coming up in a couple of weeks I'd be happy to bring them down with me and pass them onto someone local to you then.
