Yes got 4 point harness (Some old pics here viewtopic.php?f=79&t=2737&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=280) funny you should mention it as i`ve just refitted the shoulder straps on the passenger side. I`ve got the Wrap round type (which i got from Hanger 111 ) I`ve just put them round the vertical bit on the hoops (all take some Pic`s tomo`s)
If you decided on the bolt in type ask Simons if it`s ok to drill the rollbar to fit a bolt :?

Thanks Monty. Like you I want harnesses for the track but retain the normal seatbelt for the road (I have harnesses only in my '68 Elan and they are a pain on the road). As I now have the Elise seat subframes and runners courtesy of Will B I'm looking at the Schroth Elise specific harnesses which have wraparound shoulder attachments. I have no wish or intention to drill the hoops. I have considered a harness bar but will probably do as you have done and wrap around the hoops.

For me a harness is essential for trackdays, for keeping your butt in the seat so you feel more intouch with the car and most off all if things go pear shaped it could save your life, hence the reason i also went for Simons Roll Hoops.

Here`s a pic of the shoulder straps going to the Roll Hoops

Thanks Monty. The CG Lock is pretty effective at Keeping my bum firmly in the seat and with standard seats I didn't see that harnesses were going to be of any greater benefit. However I'm going to fit the Elise seats over the next couple of months and that opens up the possibilities of the Elise specific harnesses. I think they will work well using the hoops for the shoulder straps as you have done.

Totally agree with the first point.

as for the second, are you making an admission that you have sold me a below-standard item which could contribute to my early death......i hope my lawyer sees this :-D :-D :-D (seriously, it's like many other things - we hope never to have to test how good they are - also in this category are airbags, fire extinguishers, parachutes and life-rafts!)

Well you must off said to yourself "why is monty buying Simons bar and selling off LGM`s" :smt081

Just that Simon designs roll cages for a living so i`m 99% sure that there up to the job if the car ever gets flipped over, they cost more and harder to fit but have more direct fittings to the chassis. LGM`s bars only has one contact area to the chassis, well in fact it doesn`t it`s sat on top of the body so IMHO the body should be cut out to allow a spacer to be fitted direct to the chassis to the center connection of the bar. But i`m sure you know all this since you`ve got a Dolimate ( :smt081 ) all kitted out :poke:

Nige
IMHO your better off with seats that have the holes in the back section of the seats for the shoulder straps as i believe with the standard elise seats the shoulder straps can slip off your shoulder. I`ve heard that the elise boys cross over the shoulder straps to the harness bar to prevent this :?

Jay, just to clarify, I was taking the P1$$ a bit......... (I'm sure you knew that!)

Undoubtably, Simons bars are more structural than Maries.....but both are better than my head hitting the tarmac!

The point about crossing the rear straps is valid - I alwys have done, not just to stop the belt slipping (not usually a problem with holes cut in the seat), but to have better direction of forces come the glorious day we need to test how solidly they hold you in the seat :?

I still prefer the look of Maries (which is why i got them!), even with half a kilo of mesh inside the hoop :-D

(PS - they are in direct contact with the chasis now - just a bit of cutting and spacing required!!!!!!) - i decided against cutting and re-welding the side bits due to the complicated angles vs my ability/time available.

Thanks, I agree with you and will be crossing the straps behind the seat until such time as I can source seats with harness holes.

As some may know i decided to fit my new PAS rack but had to cut off the pipes/hoses to remove the old Rack  see this thread viewtopic.php?f=37&t=13669&p=177866#p177866
So whilst i was waiting for the New pipes to be made up i decided to clean, treat the suspension since it`s all gone rusty again

Used this to kill the rust
Dinitrol Converust RC900 (400ml)
Item Code
S345
Product Description:-
Dinitrol Rost-off Primer RC900 forms an impenetrable barrier to oxygen and moisture. Ideal for cavities, panels and under-body work. Loose and flaking material should be removed but it is not necessary to clean down to bare metal. This Aerosol version of Dinitrol Converust RC 800 converts rust to a stable organic iron compound. Dries to a hard black film ready for fillers or topcoats. 400ml aerosol.

Then finished off with this
Dinitrol 4941 (1 litre)
Item Code S315
Product Description:-
DINITROL 4941 - A black underbody coating which resists corrosion and abrasion.
http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp? ... (1%20litre)&catID=28&frostCat=Rust&frostSubCat=Dinitrol&subCatID=35

Bought from http://www.frost.co.uk/

Old Rack removed (had to drop the O/S suspension to remove the rack)

N/S cleaned, treated and sprayed with Dinitrol

Decided to remove the O/S suspension completely

The Old Prongeron had been used as a jacking point at the front at some stage before i own her, so i`ve replaced the prongeron (infact this is off Mike I`s flipped Elan  ) It`s now clean treated and painted :-D

New S2 Rack, new Trackrod ends and a new UJ fitted to :-D

Nice work!

I hate to ask or even say this, but why do the Elans over in the UK rust out so bad? :? Do they use salts on the road? Do you get a lot of snow in the winter? Forgive my ignorance, just trying to learn a little :D

Rain, rain a little bit more rain, oh and then a bucket full off more rain and just to top it all off a wee bit more rain lol

We don`t get much snow here (In Manc land) but they do put the gritters out in the winter which doesn`t do alot for our cars. :(

It all depends on how the cars have been looked after, ie kept garage, little mileage and have been undersealed every couple off years. Pinky II, i class as a very good car, Pinky 1 was a rot box and had a rear wishbone snap on me
Nearly All the suspension parts on Pinky II have been changed at some point but i now wished that when i bought the parts i had them stripped and galvinised

I guess it is a good thing I live in a basic "desert" environment, low humidity, few days of rain, and very warm. My Elan has never seen rain under my care and the A-arms and all other suspension parts look like new. Forgive me, I do not mean to say anything negative about your ride, I am just amazed at how the A-arms and other suspension parts corrode given exposure to water. :?

Cheers Gareth,

Just the Front brakes to do now but i`ve manage to brake the fitting on the braided hose going to the caliper as it was rusty (note to ones self, always use stainless fittings  ) anyways Bob Brown has come to the rescue again and found the correct fitting that is reuseable, so it`s just a case off cutting the old one off and fit youself (i`ll post pics off how thats done over the weekend)
Then all i`ve got to do is bleed the brakes and the take the Pink Bomb to have her tracking done, hopefully all ready for my trackday on Tuesday at Oulton
