Garry, whilst i think your doing an excellent job with this, i was more than shocked when i saw the price you have quoted above. I had a similar job done recently at Camcoat , sales@camcoat.com, & it certainly never came to anything like £140, perhaps you could try them ?

Chris, the top six bolts are M8 x 20. There are of course 2 M8 studs in lieu of bolts, but these many times are fused to the nut and so back out with it, which is why I mention six bolts instead of four. Whether you want to keep two studs is up to you. If so get two new M8 nuts & washers as well.
The bottom is trickier. I sent three 3/8" x 1 1/4" bolts, as M10 bolts only VERY SNUGGLY fit through the holes. My thinking was that if the holes in the mated triangle flanges were offset even slightly (1mm), the M10 bolts would not go through both flanges. Moving down to M8 bolts is structurally unwise, and that is how I decided on 3/8" bolts (which is what I supplied with all the precats I shipped). You also need six nuts & washers to go with the three lower bolts. 1.25" long bolts is the minimum length bolt you can use. 1.5" long will also fit, and there is no reason to go any longer than that. If you use M10 bolts, convert either length to millimeters and you'll be good.
Note that the stock precat has three M10 studs screwed into the bottom of it, in case you are keeping the precat for some inexplainable reason. If so, the studs can be replaced with three M10 x 30 bolts if you desire; but in the minimum, if still using the studs be sure to buy three new M10 nuts & three M10 washers. None of the fasteners mentioned in this post need to be ordered from Lotus, save for new studs.

[] when selling 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" systems and (I assume) a "one size fits all PCE", how will you ensure that the flanges can mate securely enough to prevent blowing?

The FLATS of the two triangle flanges must form the seal. I Gave up on any idea of sealing via a "circular recess" as the factory used, as the small 2" ring-seal used by the factory would have just fallen down into the 2.5" pipe. The 2.5" gasket I supplied: download/file.php?id=6537

Re your fitting guide please be aware that there are no jacking points on a S2 Elan by the rear wheels. Only the S1's have jacking points at the rear so would suggest this is noted in the guide. S2 Elans only have one jacking point each side near to the front. Does not look as though you raised it too high therefore not all of the weight of the car on this point so hope no damage done.

Never having jacked a single rear wheel I'll have to check this later, however if there isn't a jacking point there how am I meant to change the rear wheel in the event of a puncture??

The front jacking point lifts the whole side of the car so both wheels come off the ground. In the S2 handbook there is a note telling you not to jack the car up on any other points.

Glad I swapped the spare for repair canisters... wouldn't fancy messing with the rear wheel while the car pivots on a front jack, seems like asking for trouble

The reason we as you to source the nuts onto the PCE is because of the 2 samples we have here, one from enright and one on Bills car, is that they both have different threads on them.

Enrights one has - M10x1.25
Bills one has - M10x1.5

So as there is a mixture of sizes, we think it safer for them to be sourced yourselves.

As for the seal between the PCE and the system, we supply a ring to use with a std PCE. If you buy the PCE from us, we shall supply a gasket.

Paul - We use camcoat for all our coating. We only use the top grade coating and this is expensive. We needed to include carriage 2 ways and vat in my price so thats why it appears high. If anyone wants to get this done directly, im happy to send the part to camcoat for you to then sort payment and return carriage with

Neil - Yes, its a one size fits all PCE. We have enlarged the size over the standard one and it will work with either a standard, Peco or Piper system. We shall supply a gasket to go between the 2 joints. I cant weight the std pre cat properly as one set of scales starts at 3kg (for heavier items), and our fancy valve train scales stop at 1.5kg. Our new one weighs in at 1423g.

Got my PCE today - what a lovely bit of kit - superbly made.
I'm very much looking forwards to getting it fitted.
Anyone getting a 2 1/4" (and especially a 2 1/2") system should seriously consider this.
You're probably going to have to port your wastegate anyway, so the PCE is easily fitted during re-assembly.
It eliminates the last restriction in the system and provides a really neat funnel down to 2 1/2", rather than forcing the gases through a 2" orifice at the joint with the downpipe in the original.
And as a bonus it has all of the mounting points available to re-attach the original heat shields, so should be compatible with aircon equipped cars.
