Mark,
I can't think why it would fit any other car. The Elan was the first car where Lotus spent some money on a "modern" moulded interior instead of stretching leather over wooden boxes, so the dash should be unique to the Elan.
I don't know if any RHD gloveboxes can still be bought new, however SW Lotus had a large pile of LHD glove boxes at Donington a couple of years ago, being sold for a fiver each. These were identical to the LHD except for the rear corners. The RHD box has a chamfer on the rear left (to fit the body curve) whereas the LHD has it on the right. You could easily modify it if you don't mind being left with a slightly smaller glove box owing to having 2 chamfers.
Give them a shout.

I am almost 100% sure the lhd one does not fit the rhd one. Several of us bought the lhd ones at a fiver each couple of years ago, because SW Lotus said they would fit, not being able to work out how to fit them ourselves, we took them to a dealer, who just laughed, if you put a rhd up to a lhd, you can see they are totally different.
JPS M100 was built from bare chassis up to create one off M100 in the mould of JPS Team Lotus

Ah well, that's that idea gone. At least it was only a fiver, Paul.
I should have said "
SW Lotus claimed that these were identical to the LHD except for the rear corners."

if john is correct and teh only difference is the rear corner (ie inside) then surely all youre after is a new front....
so why not buy a SW lhd box and then cut out the rear....do the same with the rhd version and 'glue' together the lhd front and rhd rear....
hey presto....you should have one useable glovebox.....
just a thought
cheers

The box section has a totally different offset between the both....(There handed)
You can't fit it without it looking gash...
The Gareth approach would work i think... Remove the lock.. Seperate the leather effect bit from the plastic fluffy bit... the glue is really weak...
TTFN
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The N/A-Team.

I have reglued my existing leather effect front to the back bit but would still like to get a replacement box that's in better condition.
Thanks for the input, it's all good info and much appreciated.
Cheers

Hey, anyone know where I might be able to find a new LHD glovebox?

LHD is easy.........south west lotus....

mmmmm........
just been for a look at their site and they have none listed......
they used to have loads and kept telling us with RHD cars that they could be switched...'with a little modification'.......I think this was proved to be impossible and inpractical....so they may have sold them on or just taken them off their list.....
might be worth a phone call or email....

...and they don't seem to have any.
Might any of you RHD guys have bought a LHD glovebox that you don't really need/want?
