I like the idea of just the Lotus logo. It would be a lot easier to paint the willwood with black caliper paint.

I still say you could file the "Wilwood" off, then paint with black caliper paint, and then add the Lotus logo :D

Too bad you can't use the other side where there's no Wilwood logo at all :smt102

That probably would look best, but all those things are a lot of work. The piston "buldge" is 40mm across, which would allow for Lotus roundels placed 2 per caliper, if the 'Wilwood' was removed.

Powder coated "Bad Boy Yellow" (matches Norfolk Yellow). The 2 TopEnd supplied air-pipes were done as well. I took the opportunity to saw off enough of the bottom TopEnd piece so that it no longer puts ruinous pressure against the main water pipe. There had been cardboard placed there by the former owner to protect the water pipe.

Superb job as always Matt. Did you paint the raised Lotus lettering before powder coating?

Maybe he has plans for those holes... like adding accessories.... a mirror to check out your hair while working under the hood?

But it's likely he just wanted another spot to insert a shiny stainless bolt.

Note the notch I cut out of the mounting base. I installed these in the car tonight. You'll be able to tell why I cut this notch when I take pictures in the daylight tomorrow. Things like this perplex me somewhat and make me think perhaps someone just mailed in dimensions and the product was never test-fit in an actual vehicle prior to being produced.

The "right" color makes a huge difference over just having a generic yellow. These really look like factory pieces now, maybe even enough to fool your testers in California. Certainly it costs no more to have these powder coated locally (TopEnd charges $140!) where you can pick the matching color from amoung 300 or so colors; unless of course, you prefer the base color of black.

The lugs on the cam cover never bothered me, plus Blair raised a good point about the hole being deeper than the surface, although that could have been filled before it was powdercoated. You never know what you might have to bolt to the top of the engine!
GeoffSmith wrote:Did you paint the raised Lotus lettering before powder coating?

Actually its just polished. I intended to paint the letters black but I think I'll install it in the car 1st to see how it looks.

Matt, with regard to the Lotus lettering that you polished, did you paint the entire cover then sand/polish down the letters to reveal the metal or did you use some other method?

I used a power sander with 180 grit paper. It's just bare metal. It was polished after being powder coated, as the coating covered everything topside.

BTW I'm going to try and relocate the boost gauge transducer to the firewall. I just hate that pink rubber cover!

Why not just paint the pink cover yellow, too? :?

Painting rubber then placing a metal-spring tensioner over it? I think the stress will make the paint crack & peel off. I'll give it another look, but it seems like something that will just look ugly & like a "shade-tree mechanic" solution in a very short time.

I don't know if they have the right color for you, but you can take a look at Plasti-dip, and just layer it with a different color rubber. Their yellow probably doesn't match, but black would look good, and your local hardware store probably has the black on their shelf (Lowe's has it here). I had to special order the red for my car, but it has held up well on my intake pipes (used the spray version for those) and on the oil dipstick handle (used the dip for that).

The latter is my attempt at showing the interferrence with the cooling hose, but without a before picture it is almost meaningless. Trust me though, it was bad.

And here is sort of an indication of the look when I do install more pieces, but I have millions more pieces than this to put on.
