Right, i have a few prices for send this parcel to the USA.

I have based it upon sending the parcel to a residential address in New York City (as i do not have zip codes) but this should give us some idea.

I have based this on Andys parcel that we have here so i measured his parcel up. It has a 2.25" system and a PCE parceled up.

Parcel arived today - just waiting for some decent weather so i can try and fit it.

Looks a great bit of kit, thanks for your efforts, I'm sure we all appreciate the work you've done for us.


Secondly, i'm not sure if it would help our former collonial cousins, but i have used the www.parcel2go.com website for sending stuff to elan owners in USA/Canada previously......

From a quick look on the site, it appears that the parcel sizes you have quoted would have a 'volumetric weight' of 21Kg, which would allow a FedEx shipping on the 'Up to 25Kg' tarrif - comes in at a bargain price of £64.99 for a 4-day service.

They take credit card and PayPal, so it wouldn't be too hard for each person ordering to arrange and pay for their own collection/delivery, thereby just needing you to attach the relevant labels (which they could e-mail to you) and to chuck the parcel on the van!

0.25" - If your keeping your car stock then go for the 2.25", you won't see any benefit from a 2.5" system.

I'm fairly sure you can only avoid VAT if the goods are to be shipped outside the UK, it doesn't matter where you live or how you pay.

Trawling through YOUTUBE videos it seems that the PIPER is slightly less obnoxious than the PECO and seems more like a peformance factory exhaust whereas, although I like the PECO it seems more SAXO boy to me... Would you agree?

The sound of a exhaust is a personal thing as shown by some likeing the peco and some don't and I would think the same will probaly go for piper. I am more than happy with the piper but would say it looks more saxo boy than the peco due to its tailpipe size. Was going to do a sound bite but the weather is crap. So far pleased as punch with the piper. Check with Gary at piper re the discount as originaly it was for less 10% and free delivery in UK for the first batch of orders only and that run has finished.

Sounds great, looks great!

I could not really test it, as the weather is just awful around Paris now, but the first time I pressed the accelarator deep, I think I had the "wastegate error", you know when the motor just stops for a few seconds. But then it seemed to be OK.

My Turbo gauge just goes VERY high (near 1 bar...) and had the tyres creeping in 4th gear!

I'll let you know if I have the waste gate stuff again, because actually I don't understand what "Porting the wastegate" consists in...

No.

Dave at Peco was (and possibly even still IS) an Elan owner and thanks to him Peco developed a very good system - mandrel bent, with a flexible section and for an extremely reasonable price. Until Piper came along, other than the "Mother-in-law's screech" issue which no-one could have foreseen, it was THE system that was the benchmark.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not taking anything away from what Garry and Piper have done - he/they have been more than reasonable to this forum, and have produced what looks like a brilliant system with every conceiveable option (including a PCE which is a superb investment). But even they wouldn't slag-off the competition. I've heard a Peco, and while it was a little louder than expected, I'd be surprised if you'd be able to spot the difference from the outside.

OK, now I can confirm that I have the CPU cutting off the fuel to avoid problems... Did you guys installed your Piper system? Do you have the same problem? Does anyone have more photos of "porting the wastegate" than there is in the WikiLEC?

Do you have one of the Mountain Chips as I believe it resolves a lot (but not all) of peoples problem when the 2 1/4 exhaust has been fitted.

Although I haven't fitted mine as yet, I consider that the standard of engineering design and workmanship is very good.
I really look forward to the first run.
Any other comments - exhaust note / noise level? - ease of fitting? would you recommend to other Owners?

I have a modified chip, but not a Mountain Chip. Actually I think I'd rather go for the wastegate to be ported. Thanks for the picture. Is this from a standard wastegate, or was it ported? How much should I make the hole wider?
