door mirror loose

My drivers side door mirror (the glass only) has lost its ability to hold itself vertically in place. I adjust the mirror and 1 minute later its pointing at the ground. Can anyone offer an insight into the mirror housing interior bits? Can the glass be removed easily (and does it merely pull off)?

If i remember theres a cross type thing that holds the glass, maybe its
come off put the glass in place where you think it should be and
push hard in the middle.

There is a two way pivot cross at the rear of the glass plate, that clips into two small plastic rods.

You may find one of a couple of problems:
1. The rods or cross have simply become unclipped.
2. One of the rods or clips as snapped. (as in my case)

The glass is easily removed from the housing with a bit of force. It takes a fair bit and as long as you are firm you should be able to remove it to examine the back.

If it has simply become unclipped, you should be able to assert a firm central force to the door glass to reaffix it to the clips. (this will make more sense if you look behind the glass)

If a bit has broken, that is more of a challenge as it appears (so far) that you cannot get the fixings for the back of the glass seperately and may be into buying a new mirror assembly.

There may be a cross reference part for the workings but I have not yet found it.

I tried to make a replacement plastic rod out of plastic tubing, using blu-tac intsead of the serrated gripper. I did have it in place long enough for me to realise that it will not be very adjustable, so it only a temporary solution.

3 attempts and I am yet to make one which has not failed. I am not beaten yet though.

Ok... here's the problem with mine. I took the mirror off and one of the plastic clip things has snapped off. I don't think the mirror is just going to fall off or anything since the plastic rods still go in, but the middle pivot point (grey plastic if I remember correct) snaps into two places in the center of the mirror. So basically the problem lies with the plastic piece glued to the mirror. Can I order a new one of those from Lotus... or how do I go about getting it to stop rattling around so much?

IIRC south west lotus have the convex drivers side mirror in stock...£8

they have the whole mirror unit incl the unpainted body......or just the body....or just the convex style mirror....

I need the driver's side. That's the website I ordered from. Originally he had a driver's side in stock, but after I ordered it, he said he inspected it and it was broken/missing a rod. I had him send me the passenger side instead, so now I have to figure out how I can get the objects in mirror are closer than they appear stuff off of it. If it's even possible. Hmm... gotta figure out how to make it work one way or another.

I ended up just putting the passenger side mirror on the driver's side. It's not loose now, but it does say "Objects may be closer than they appear" upside down on it. Can't really do anything about it since it's etched in. Only thing I can think of is maybe stick it in the oven for a bit and separate the plastic bit from the mirror and glue it on the old one I have... but not sure I want to risk screwing it up seeing as how difficult it could be to come across another replacement mirror.
