I will volunteer to be the tour guide up California PCH, Highway 1 -- such a beautiful drive!

And if the drive starts south and goes north, I'll help out. Perhaps you could look to ship to Port of San Diego or Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach.

I don't usually look at the UK events so I didn't see this previously. We drove coast to coast in our M100 in 2004. We drove parts of rt66 from the Grand Canyon National Park (NP) to the California border. Driving in the west is great fun. The rt 89 - rt 89 alternate loop north of the Grand Canyon is a very nice day drive. New Mexico has fantastic roads for 90 & 100 mph top down driving. Slow down to the speed limits around the towns and you should be OK.


In 2007 we did a similar trip in the M100 but spent more time along the northern tier (the Dakotas, Minnesota ...) before driving a lap or two around Yellowstone NP, then down the Grand Tetons, Flaming Gorge to Arches NP. Colorado has great roads. The altitude keeps the turbo spooled up so the car is transformed. One thing we learned about the west. If a detour is recommended take it. We didn’t take a recommended detour since it looked like it would add 20 to 50 miles. We were eventually trapped on one lane dirt construction road!

Skyline drive is a nice drive however it is not sports car friendly. There is too much enforcement by national park rangers who do not take kindly to speeders to have much driving fun. Also the general touring motorist, hikers and bicyclists make it unwise to push very hard.

I haven’t driven the west coast roads for many years. rt1 and rt101 are spectacular.
