A Post/Pillar Seals Available from Lotus!

I was chatting to Gerald at GST Performance today and we came to the conclusion that they had not all come in to stock at Lotus.
He had heard from Lotus that the first batch had come in and gone more or less straight out the door to cover back orders, then some more came in and he recieved another set and he is waiting on some more including mine which will nodoubt appear in due course.

Which tends to confirm the delivery schedual of 50 a week

Wonder if Lotus expected them to go so quickley?

We've taken every opportunity to bring it up with anyone who'll listen (and a few who tried not to) so together with the back orders, I expect they realised there was going to be a bit of a rush on them.

:banana: This is great news but do we have a guide for installing these seals?

Received my new seals last Saturday and collected from dealer in Newcastle. Fitted the drivers side on Monday and to be honest after hearing horror stories regarding the fitting wasn't looking forward to the job.

However, like I said, fitted the drivers side on Monday morning before I started work on customers cars. Start to finish including removing old seals took about 35 minutes.
Closed door, checked alignment of glass and was pleasantly surprised at the fit.

BUT, when I fitted the passenger side started on Wednesday 5.30pm, seal fitted after removing old one by approx 6pm. Closed door checked glass fitment and found 10mm gap at top. The following 3 hours where spent adjusting window runner guides by shimming till I was reasonably happy with the gap.

Moral is, the seals to fit are a piece of piss, adjusting the doors/glass is the pain in the arse.

Fitting the seals are simple, really.

I tried in Italy but all the dealers contacted by me said that is impossible to have....
I'm not so happy with my english swimming pool!!! it started raining two week ago!!

Not sure if anyone has had any luck sourcing in the US, either? I tried my closest Lotus dealer (Mass) who contacted Lotus USA in GA to see about availability. They did not seem to have any clue and are not aware of these being released. Has anyone heard if they are planning to make them open for purchase outside of the UK?

Sikaflex 221 is what the shop manual calls for. (I know the link shows it in grey, sorry. Be sure to get it black.)

As far as making a mess, you just have to be careful, and I highly recommend latex gloves. The stuff is actually pretty easy to work with without making a mess. It will stick to just about everything though, so you might want to cover anything you think you might drip on (I used a drop cloth just to be safe).

Ratman & Matt R1, read Bobs post above, it appears any seals that have come in at the minute have been accounted for, although there are more on the way, perhaps it would be worth giving SJ Sportscar or Paul Matty a ring & place an order so you are at least on the list for one of the batches, believe they both post abroad.

the seals are arriving in batches of 50....
the first lot were on back order and were sent out as soon as lotus had them....
the next lot of seals should arrive soon...(the next 50 that is..)
and after that the next 50....and so on until lotus have all 450 of em
they should also be available in the US

Minimum order to get the tooling etc I guess... these should be available ongoing according to Lotus, made in batches of 50 sets if I understand correctly.

dont forget that 450 sets probably covers about 20% of the cars left on the road.....

What is the quality like on yours? (And I dont mean compared to the crappy ones on your car that they are replacing )

I mean, are they what you would expect for £150 or are they rather poor.

I know someone who was rather disappointed with the quality of theirs when they opened them up from the packet.

i recieved a pair a couple of weeks ago, they are made out of the same material as the original ones and i would say they are ok and worth every penny considering they used to be double the price.

I would have said the material is similar, it is difficult to say if it is exactly the same and they may have used a material that is similar but more durable and not so UV sensative.

I would appear that they have started to come through a lot quicker now!
Picked up two sets of seals this morning c/o GST Performance which was very quick as I did not place the order for the second set until Thursday so that was next day delivered from Lotus.
Quaility is OK, but it is either these or nothing as all sorts have been tried as replacements with little success to date.
Will probably hold off fitting them for the moment as the ones on there are not too bad and have seen ones that are a lot worse.

For £150 I would expect a lot better than what I got! £150 for two bits of rubber 2ft long... For £150 I could get quite a lot of other things, perhaps even a car, and certainly a bike.

Oh well I guess that is just part of owning an ageing but classic car. Ateothd it is £150 well spent - I hope! But I didn't buy two sets even if they were half price!!!

i've been waiting for these to become available for a while now

my windscreen is cracked, and i'm not sure it will pass an MOT, in fact if i have wordw ith the MOT bloke i'll make sure it fails

so, i therefore have to change my screen, and now that seals are available, and if i'm right Lotus recomend changing the seals with the screen, how would i go about getting the screen change people to get hold of a set of seals????
